Thread: Smuggler revamp: is a publish gonna be enough? not likely

hey guys, I was a bit inspired to start this thread from the post on the In Development forum asking for content ideas. we all have been anxiously awaiting the long-overdue smuggler revamp and I cant help but think that if you REALLY want to experience smuggling at its best, a small publish wont be nearly enough to do the profession any more justice. others may disagree(mainly becuase it would mean a longer wait with Rage of the Wookiees only just having been released in the last couple weeks), but I really believe that a full expansion will be needed to fix the galaxy underworld as we know it.


here's what I think should be included in such an expansion (all in addition to the actual changes to the profession itself that have been proposed by Tiggs in the Concept forum)



1. The Kessel Run. NickHeeloutlined an absolutely excellent draft for implementing the Kessel Run into the game. refer to http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=smuggler&message.id=131477&view=by_date_ascending&page=1


2. The Smuggler's Run. it's a smuggling space station in a hollowed out asteroid inside the Pit which is part of the Kessel Run. some reference was made to it in NickHeel's thread.


3. New Profession: Crime Lord. back around the end of august I drafted a crime lord profession but never got aroudn to posting it on here. the draft I came up with would be useless now because of the CU but I'm sure something could be designed. with added infamy it would provide several opportunities for quests and would most definitely inrease the fun of role playing.


4. New multiplayer freighter ships. Rage of the Wookiees gave us some new ships, some of them being 3-person starfighters, but that's just what they are: starfighters. we still only seem to have the original three freighters from JTL. my biggest gripe with them has been the YT-1300. those who have read much of the expanded universe will know that this model freighter has long been discontinued by the time of the classic trilogy. Aside to the Millennium Falcon,only one other YT-1300 has been seen: a decoy of the Falcon in Timothy Zahn's first star wars trilogy. but that aside we jsut need more variety in this class of ship. I for one would rather fly a YT-2000 or (even more) the YT-2400 (same model as Dash Rendar's Outrider in Shadows of the Empire). but really anything in addition would be nice.


5. Nar Shaddaa - The Smuggler's Moon. This is perhaps my most desired feature to be added to the smuggling community, because it IS the smuggling community! it may be dirty, grimy and seedy, but it's every smuggler's haven! and like the Smuggler's Run station, it gives great opportunity for more quests both smugglign and non smuggling. I would envision that quests out of the smuggler's run would be smuggling only but Nar Shaddaa could also have other types as well. I truly believe that this planet and space sector should be added to enhance the smuggling world content and, of course, role playing if you're into that.


share more thoughts guys, cuz I really think that we would benefit even more if it was in its own complete expansion.

Re: #4... that's one reason I'm a Reb pilot. The Nova's not a YT-1300. But that said... what I'd really like is an Action-IV bulk freighter I could trick out. Not so much because the Wild Karrde was built on that frame.. but because it's big enough that you could actually make it look like you're a smuggler that lives in one. Even the Y-8 is too limited to make this feasable, as most of the bulk is given over to the command deck and a cramped hallway with all the component access ports. There's very little living space on ANY POB ship-- which sucks for us professions that canonically tend to LIVE in our starships. You can kinda do it with the yacht... but I'm a a rogueish smuggler, NOT a classy smuggler. And yachts move like crippled elephants, anyway.

I like all of it except for the new class. Let them finish smuggler first.


Adding Hutt space to the game would be sweet. One of my friends and i were just talking about how we wished they would add Hutts (like the one in the moenia cantina) as a vendor race (at the VERY least), and that at least shouldn't be too difficult, i would think. It'd be cool if revamp let you place something like that instead of a boring old terminal of some sort. We went on a tangent about house-placable NPCs too, for"Color" and extra storage (like vendors do) and such.


I personally would like to see themintegrate the Freelance Pilot "factions" into the ground system somehow.

yeah I agree in a way that they should finish fixing smuggler before adding a nother new prof, but the main reason I included it in this expansion suggestion is because the two kind of go hand in hand content-wise as they are both big parts of the galaxy underworld. alternatively, they could do a small publish to fix the slicing and add some missions, and then come out with this expansion which introduces more smuggler content as well as a new related prof

well I have a two-fold sugestion to jumpstart space smuggling.


one is that people use their ships as glorified shuttles, if you want to use your ship to take you to a planet I sugest that you force them to actualy fly it there instead of clicking a button.


two would be to expand the contraband searches by NPCs to space, especialy around the HPs closist to the various landing platforms. Thisway a pilot with contraband would have to risk a search or plot a course from a farther away HP to the landing platform that avoids the patrols.

a fellow guildie said to me that a whole expansion for jsut one prof is a bit unfair, and I see the argument. to add to my suggestions, there could be content for other profs too, particularly on Nar shadda and the space sector. A point to add is that Nar Shaddaa is the moon of Nal Hutta. the devs could add in this swampy planet as well for even more general content that everyone can get in on.


my main feeling on the issue is that to really bring this part of star wars to life, it'll take much mroe than just a simple publish to fix the profession's gameplay. yeah the missions will be great but the added content above makes it that much better

A neutral expansion would benefit MANY professions.



BH: More Hutt/BHG/etch missions, and places to hunt marks


Smuggler: nuff said


Ranger/Scout: New areas to explore


Artisan: More expansions mean more items to make


JTL/Pilot: More areas means more space



and so on.

I really like the idea of this thread...


my thought along these lines was that the next expansion should focus on third factions, and expand that are of the game, it would be nice to be able to develop a characters role in the galaxy without having to be either empire or rebel, and it would also serve to even out the GCW a bit, at least in the galaxy i play in it seems the rebels are way ahead. It would be cool to see other factional control of planets, like jabba actually in control of tatooine like he is supposed to be and things of that nature. Third party faction would be a good way to incorporate sidekicks and the like as faction perks, i'd love to buy a strorm trooper follower but it just doesnt fit my smuggler image.


To sum up my rambling.. it would be great to see a expansion focusing on not just the underworld but neutral factions in general

the kessel run the most inviting of the 5, I thinkit would be pretty cool closly followed by#4but I would like to see them bring in the hutt faction as well
