(Sorry it won't accept my clicky's yet.)
Why should I, or anyone else in the Smuggler community, continue to pay for this game?
Because:
- At its core, SWG is still a fun game. The next few publishes are focused on fixing major elements of what makes the game frustrating. Eliminating hologrinding, improving the Jedi experience, balancing combat, and introducing new GCW features. All of this promises to improve the overall SWG experience.
- JTL is coming. Jump to Lightspeed is adding a completely new experience to the game. It's a lot of fun and its very different.
- Smugglers will get a revamp. I can't say when. If I did, and we missed it, you'd kill me. A revamp will happen.
- No more smuggler B.S. No more announcing a date and not delivering. We're going to put together a plan for smuggler and post it here so you guys can review it. We'll have a plan determined before we start writing the code so you know whats going to happen to your profession.
- Because we will do a lot of stuff you asked for. Better spices. Spice experimentation. No more pistol requirement. A lot more new stuff as well.
If they do answer, another question I would have would be... why should I, or any other member of the Smuggler community, believe you this time after so many broken promises?
- No more broken promises. I had some very frank discussions with several smugglers at Fan Fest. I KNOW you guys are frustrated. We aren't going to string you along. There will be a revamp. It might happen after JTL, but it will happen. There will be a public plan for the revamp ahead of time (possibly soon) that you guys can start tweaking for implementation.
- I take this profession very seriously. I know its flaws. I'm going to level up a new smuggler character, myself. It's very important to me that Smuggler is improved and turned into a fun, rewarding profession.

Well it's been over a year. So I have a few questions for the community. Looking back, is this what happened? Is this what you wanted to happen? Given all the things that have happened in the last year (expansions, CU, GCW, etc.) are you happy with the way things have been happening (for both smugglers and the rest ofthegame)? If not, what would you have done differently? Try to remain constructive.
I especially find the parts in green intresting.

No, we're not, and we've been saying so for some time now. And you missed a few spots with the green highlighting, our spices aren't better, we can't experiment on them and never will be able to, and we didn't get "a lot more new stuff as well" either.

That's just what I find intresting... Feel free to make your own highlights. Guess I never cared for spices all that much, or vague talk about "new stuff".

To know the truth of it you need to check the history- look at the kinds of posts we were making at this time a year ago.
We were asking that we could use our abilities with more than pistols, we were asking for sidekicks, better spices, choosing our slices, Smuggler bounties and of course- Smuggling.
Here are some threads from those days...

You will see some familiar names and some who left long ago.
But Yeah, we DID ask for most of this stuff- but a majority of us that did ask for it have left and those of us left behind could never have imagined that those ideas would be implemented in this way.
It is still too early- waaaaay too early to say how beneficial these changes are- it will work itself out soon. But these ARE changes we asked for.

We _didn't_ ask that Master level slices require high-level loot.
We're "Master" smugglers - We should be able to do it on our own. If they desperately want loot as part of our game, make it like krayt tissues are to WS's.

We wanted sliced goods to be rare- in the hopes that carrying contraband would mean something.
Sliced weapons- high end sliced weapons I should say, will be rare.
Now they need to come back with a system where contraband means something. Also, using this system would make it VERY easy to implement a Smuggler Bounty System based on high end slices.
Slices are not supposed to be as frequent as they have been.
Slices should be special- extremely good slices should be RARE.
Soon we will figure out definitively what drops the toolkits and the finely tuned kits and they will become common place- trust me. The higher end stuff should be harder to get- ESPECIALLY if it makes the weapon/armor go above the caps- which I sincerely hope it does.
I like the new system. A lot more than the other because when I slice my guns now I feel like I'm DOING something and not rolling the dice.
I'm not crazy about ALL the tools being looted. I would much rather the tier 2 tools be crafted however there are a great many Smugglers who feel crafting should be left to the crafters and Smuggling given to us.
All in all- it's early- too early to judge this system. Most of the outcrys you are hearing are people's way of dealing with change. It was the same with the CU. Very few still cling to the myth that the old combat system is better/more engaging than this one. It will be the same with slicing.
Especially if there is a reason why they switched things the way they did-

the new slicing system is great. having to loot all our components is horrible. i spent all day today trying to loot these things and i didnt get a single drop. we are now professional loot whores. just change our title devs, make us "Master LootCampers" cuz thats what we are now. no other profession deals with loot this way. yes WSs and ASs need loot to make exception weapons/armor, but it is not required for them to loot anything to make their wares. This whole change goes against one of the orginal fundamentals of this MMO that swg will not be a loot based game.
theres nothing wrong with looting components for high end stuff. leave thelast slice in each category to require loot, but at least give us some schematics or at the very least give it to WS or AS so we dont have to camp space and ground spawns just to perform our basic function as smugglers(at least until they actually letus smuggler something).
i've done my best over the last 2 years (i'm a june29th'er of 03) to not complain or judge to quickly anything the devs have done. but this slicing "upgrade" is rediculous. i've been a smuggler over a year and this is the first time i've seriously considered dropping it.
knowing the devs, they wont change this system so hopefully they'll at least increase drop rates on our new crafting kits
