Why not let smugglers slice more sockets on armor, maybe allow them to add extra sockets to a particular item in preference to the other customisations? This would allow people to re-use old armor, and make the armorsmith trade less dependant on how many sockets each item has?
Would be nice if this loot was very rare, but not sure how this would balance with the other mods.
IMO two of the slices are pretty redundant anyway given the cost of the slicing parts v price of armor and ADK's and the return would be popular.
The reasoning behind this is much due to the recent imbalance of high level mods that have flooded the market due to poor loot table design/mob difficulty and the ability to respawn high level mobs. This would give value to the not so uber mods and people can be more selective about protection v state defenses, weapon speed/accuracy etc against the virtue of armor break defenses and critical saves.
Just an idea, any thoughts?

Actually screw it,
Why not let smugglers make the skills mods themselves? Put a load more trade your way.

now thats the ticket! screw these piddly little number cruncher slices, let us make modifications to armor and weapons that give a variety of bonuses.... the new slicing system seems a bit half assed because.. well.. it is. They have already given away everything that a good slicing system could be to other things.. power ups and attachments.. therefore slicing is mostly redundant.
