It may not be possible considering a PSG is treated as armor but it would bevery beneficial to remove the possibility of an encumberance slice from a PSG. I would even be happy with a lower range of possible increases -- say 10% - 25% -- if it were possible to always improve the item.
Caylin, any way to get a quick thumbs up or down from the dev team on whether something like this would be possible? I am not in the "pick-o-slice" camp but there is no argument that can be made that an encumberance slice on a PSG is helpful to anyone.

When I slice a psg I often get encumberance and my customers are not at all happy about this! I would welcome some fix for this!!

its an added increase to your protection without any encumberance why improve it with out any risk of it screwing up. Would you rather it blow up and not useable at all?

Although I can agree somewhat I view the risk as being the same as for any other piece of armor. You have a risk to fail the slice but a successful slice always improves the item. You have the same risk on a PSG as for a wepon or armor piece. However, you cannot guarantee that a successful slice will improve the item and I believe that is a significant difference.

Or while we're on the topic, why not just make a small tweak to the slicing interface:
Cut the blue (encumberance) wire.
Cut the red (effectiveness) wire.
You already used a molecular clamp because you're not a hack.
Flow Analyzer nodes are worthless and so this option has been removed.
Problem solved.

I know they are aware of this issue, but I don't know if they will take any steps towards this till the revamp. It's as good a time as any to bring it back up though, I'll see what I can do.

I would wholeheartedly agree with this change.
At the moment, when I slice PSG's for people, if I get encumbrance, I don't charge them anything (as the slice did nothing, in that case).

This is an interesting conversation (topic), I'm interested in seeing how this can or would be changed.

The encumberance slice WOULD make a nice risk for slicing...IF there was a similiar risk and reward for all other items you sliced. But there isn't. So it seems rather silly that this should have an increased risk.

This is in the pipeline thread, if he responds to this... I'll let you know.

Old concern, but I'd like to address it here again at a prompt from my community.
Personal Shield Generators are currently able to be sliced, but the encumberance slice on these items is without any purpose whatsoever as all PSGs have 0 encumberance to begin with.
This makes the effectiveness slice the only viable one. Is there a chance that we could remove the encumberance slices from these items for the short term?
I have a feeling it is treated as 'armor' and it would be more complex than we think, to deny PSGs encumberance slices, but it would be nice to have some feedback on this.

Thanks Caylin. To be honest, I'm doubtful that it would be changed simply because I really think the game views it as armor. Still, it can't hurt to ask and we might even get lucky.

Id just as well see them add encumberance to shields. Shields in this setting are the anti blaster, they should be better than armor but limit you from doing much. Shields validate melee combat and as such it would be great if they were developed further into the role that they hold in the backstory.
