HI, I been Master smuggler, dropped it, and are now on my way back...
I was thinking why could we not make "fake Id:s"? I belive it would fit us to be able to help other players to get new names, Some players might have a reason to change their name on their characters, just like people like to get a workover by a imge designer. Or is it just not possibe designwise?

I don't see them ever allowing us to change our names in a permanent fashion. The only time this is done is by CSRs.
Fake ID's are an idea I personally like, but I don't see them ever allowing us to change our names.

I also like the idea of fake ID's, Only temp useage only, Like i get a fake id from a master smuggler and run into a contraband scan and take the fake id, Everything passes as the id shows i'm a High Ranking imperial (somethign along those lines) and i carry on about my bussnes.
The Tempory ID is destoryed!

Just out of curiosity what are some of the valid reasons CSR will change a name? The reason I ask is a friend of mine started a character and just used the default name not paying attention and the name is awful, long and hard to spell. Any chance for a name change you think?

Nope. Only reason I can think of for a name change are when people break the naming convention and when someone finds the name to be overly offensive.

I know it has to be in violation of the name filter, so I'm guessing something the game gave your friend isn't gonna get changed.
Sorry about that good chap.

Image Designers asked for the name change ability. The official dev response was split, at first they said that names were deeplied tied into the game's character identification code, and couldn't easily be changeable by players. Then they said that name changes could be used to make it look as though SOE/LA support same-sex marriages…not that unity rings allowing it doesn't do that…but whatever. Either way, they've made it clear that players will not be allowed to change names, for griefing reasons (first name only,) code reasons, or legal reasons (last name only.)

Perhaps they don't have to let our names change, but simply let the Fake ID, work as the "Disguise" concept they had back in early beta(or before). Simply let the Fake ID temporarily change your faction untill you blow your cover, but the name stays the same.
Example:
JohnyReb decides to infiltrate an Imperial base(perhaps this could be a new type of mission). A Smuggler gives him a Fake ID(Higher the level in, say Underworld, the higher the rank the ID gives), which allows him to enter this base without combat.
However, it also makes a slight change to who JohnyReb can attack and whatnot. First, it makes JohnyReb OVERT, second, he can attack Rebels now, as well as Imperials. But, attacking an Imperial blows his cover.
Also, He can be attacked by any Overt Rebel, but looks like a simple Overt Imperial to other Imps. While the Fake ID is on him, he can treat IC units just as real Imps would. Also, the level of the Smuggler defines the duration of the Fake ID.
These combat settings would balance the Fake ID, so long as the user stays Overt for the durration of the ID.
Also, you can base the ID as a wearable item, like a ring, so that JohnyReb can switch back and forth. But, if any Imperial NPC sees him switch, the ID is destroyed and he becomes and Overt Rebel, like in an IC scan gone bad. Also, to keep him from switching back and forth so much, it can't be equipped while the player has a TEF.
Just a few ideas tossed into the fray. Enjoy.

I was forced to change my name (succeeded griefing attempt
)...NOT FUN
you loose: ALL you mails, your WHOLE contact list, I lost half the control to my factories (no acces to hopper, so couldn't redeed), NO structure/vendor mails (csr ticket opened, problem is now resolved).
And of course the fact most people don't recognise you anymore, or tihnk you're someone else
(My name changed from Slymenstra Hymen to Sly, Slymenstra is a member of the metal band Gwar, and as far as I know name is not copyrighted)
Nobody ever had a problem with my name (well, one entertainer...till I explained, then she was kinda ok with it), till some rebs who griefed me before reported it...and then attacked and killed me after the name changed, and I was talking to CSR.
