Thread: Make a million credits from spice

A ‘how to’ for making lots of money from the spice trade as of around the time of the JTL release.

But first, a story. Started in swg a few of months ago. Not a power player, but steadily working my way up towards Master Smuggler as the only possible career choice. Constantly broke but RPing a bit and generally having fun. Had browsed through many, many posts on the futility of the spice trade so I worked on slicing thinking this was a ticket to riches. It wasn’t. Not enough trade, too much standing around, can make money quicker killing small, helpless fluffy animals and ittook ages to pay off the money I borrowed to buy the tools and resources to get up to Slicer.

Someone wanted a crate of Muon for PvP, so I worked up to Fence. Made various spices. More fun RPing but still no money.

Friend of mine is a master doctor. He had a factory. I borrowed it, made a couple of crates of Muon and stuck them on Coronet bazaar. They sold within the hour. So I made some more. Sold them overnight. A few days of this and I can afford some medium harvesters.

Wohoo. Mass production time. Still selling at 6k per crate, four or five crates per night, more at the weekends. Formed a partnership with the doctor. Both of us used loading Coronet, Dath, Dant, sometimes even Endor and Yavin with 6k muon and pixie crates. A factory and six miners, all going flat out and still selling as fast as I can manufacture. Rock and roll lifestyle kicks in. Had armour custom made. Rebalanced my stats and became a buff junkie. Bought cases of brandy to run in parallel with the muon. Bought some new guns.

Then… spotted someone else undercutting me with a muon crate on Coronet.

Checked through the list and found several more.

By the end of this weekend a quick browse of the galaxy bazaars and found more muon and pixie than an army of psychotic buff junkie TKAs could possibly drink in a month. My income stopped dead. All my money has been blown on shiny stuff. I am in contract to a shipwright to supply him with ferrous but I cannot afford to fuel the harvesters. I am going to get kneecapped, my YT is now a pipe dream and I have spent my few remaining credits on drink and pretty female lizards. I am older, wiser, drunk, bitter and more cynical, but I promised a ‘how to’. So.

HOW TO MAKE A MILLION CREDITS FROM SPICES:

It turns out to be a really simple trick.

1) Be the only bazaar–stocking volume spice producer in your galaxy.

2) Sustain this for two weeks.

Ah well. Us newbies are here to learn. It was fun while it lasted. A triumph for the dynamic economy. Boom and bust and all that.

Back to the fluffy animals...

We do not have a lot of us "Proffessional" Smugglers on Chim, but saying that those of us that are I can think of only 5 of us that are "Known" as being spice sellers / producers. Of these 5, 4 of us are also merchants so sell on our own vendors not the bazzare.

Saying that the price tends to be at about the 6K mark, and I prob sell about 20 crates a week of each.

But lets face it the way to make money as a smuggler is not in the spices.....

Yeah, I never found spice to be too terribly profitable. Back before the chef revamp, I sold crates of Muon and Pixie for 10k a crate... the Muon had moderate sales, but the Pixie rarely moved. After the chef revamp, it was a major lost cause. I still have tons of stock leftover from my spice dealing days. I still use 'em to get me out of a jam, but I can't sell 'em for nuthin'.

I found I caneasily make 100k to 200k per night slicing as a Master in Cnet. Of course, killing jantas is much more profitable, but sometimes I just like the interaction of the customer.I have a short attention span (despite the fact that I've been a smuggler for over a year), so I get bored with slicing pretty easily, too. But if I wanted to make a million creds off of smuggling, I'd hang in CNet. Heck, I make 50k in a couple of hours FISHING near Cnet, as long as my Master title us up and I'm searchable. Folks come to me for slicing when I'm FISHING.

This is how I made my money right away.. But this was back when Muon Gold was the hottest commodity available. When there were no mind buffs or good chef food. I was making full batches (40 crates) every few days and selling it all before the next batch.. Anyway, times have changed but you're definately right that there is still money to be made in the spice business..

That was excellent Gaj!

I'm also justnibbling through my old supply as I need it. It has been so long since I've made muon or pixie, I forgot the resources! I have a ton of flowers (too poor of a quality to make any chef food from) and radioactives sitting around, so I know they did something. I was by no means even close to being the first smuggler on Bloodfin, but I still remember when pixie sold better than muon and my first crates went for 30K each. Then we were pissed when the mass-suppliers cut the market to 9K, which we'd drool over today. But the revamp will fix everything, right! *poke* *poke*

Gaj, this is exactly what being a smuggler should be like. Sitting poor and confused in a cantina looking at all this nice crap that you couldn't live without and now have no home to store it in, and wondering where all your money went .

I still sell spice from time to time on Chim but have long since given up on using the Bazzar for it as its too time consuming for the amount of profit you make. Even when im given the resources to make spices for free from my Guild mates. I only do bulk orders now for the small core of repeate customers I have had for the last 10 months. Still trade dropped a lot after the Chef update and on Avg I sell 10 crates a month of Muon and Pixie in person and nowt from the vendor that is ran for me. I do make a fair bit off of clamps and knifes and the occasional Full Slicing box kits but I reckon thats partly cause Haven Island is the closest player city to Coronet and so gets a lot of traffic. I did stop advertising too. Im waffling arent I? Oh well...
