Thread: Need Advice from some smugglers

I've been thinking about going smuggler for a few months, but I need a bit of advice on the smuggler profession.
My current template is:
Master TK,
Master Swordsman,
Scout 1-0-0-0,
and Rifleman 1-1-0-4 (working towards 2-1-0-4, I also have pistol 2 in marksman, I haven'tsurrendered it yet for that last rifle skill).
What I want to know is, would it be better to surrender my rifle skills, and head for smuggler 0-4-4-0? The smuggler profession has always held some interest in me, in its ability to roleplay, and just plain enjoyment. I read all of Imodi's post, about considering becoming a smuggler, and the advice there really helped convince me a bit more. However, his template is a bit different from mine, and I wanted to make sure that my decision is based off of information that is accurate to my character.
I want to keep Swordsman, and Teras Kasi, both masters, and I want to keep Scout, so really I'm only looking at surrendering Rifleman, hope that helps.

Rifleman isnt really worth dabbling in, that too merely at 2/1/0/4, so either master it or surrender it.
Without Pistoleer/BH pistols/A plethora of SEAs, you're not going to get anywhere with the Smuggler pistol skills. Your accuracy and speed will be so bad, sexists will be pointing at you while 'lol-ing', telling you you shoot like a woman. The only useful special for you in the DF line will prolly be FD. As for slicing, the range at which you slice increases at Master, so personally, i'd never just dabble in slicing either. Unless of course, you're simply getting the skill to slice bases.
Fact isthat with this template, you wont be slicing at the optimal level, and definately wont be able to hit an elephant with a handful of rice if you utilise DF. Rifleman wont be as powerful either, so you'll mostly be relying on your melee skills.I'd suggest you go with what you enjoy the most, but in essence this template could be far better if improved.
Wish you luck, whatever you decide to go with.

Say if I were to surrender scout, and take up as much of the accuracy skill line in pistoleer that I could, would it be any better?
My TK and Swordsman skills are really the strength of my template. From the Smuggler or Rifleman professions, I'd really be looking more for a profession to compliment my other skills.
I got from your reply that pretty much both professions will be of little use to me with the abilities that I'd be able to get with them, but from your stand-point, which is the "lesser of two evils?"
That's the last of my questions for now. ![]()

Even if you surrendered scout, went up two trees in smuggler and retained your double-melee master title, your accuracy would suffer, and your speed would be negligble. Even a Master Pistoleer cannot cap LD on a 3.6 speed DE-10 without SEAs. You'd be firing way too slow, be missing quite a bit, and your damage output will be significantly lower. Its difficult for masters to compete with riflemen, you can imagine how it is for dabblers who dont pick up ranged skill trees which compliment their weapon of choice.
With the template you have chosen minus the rifle prof, you'd still only be able to manage 3 boxes, at best. If you're looking for a prof to compliment Master TK/Swordsman, a popular template is to go the melee-stacking route and pick a third melee prof, possibly Fencer for the defenses. Itsalso possibleto mix it up a bit and pick up the defense lines in most melee profs, and master one single prof as your main form of attack.
Since the smuggler revamp has yet to occur, one entire tree (DF) will be absolutely useless to you, and the other tree wont be used to its potential (slicing). As for underworld and spices, you'd only be able to pick either tree without sacrificing your melee capabilities. Underworld receives a 25% perk at Master, which you'd miss out on, and spices are more or less obsolete, and only utilised in emergency situations.
I suggest you pick up the defense lines of the main melee profs and master rifleman. You'll be a force to reckon with. Some medic wouldnt hurt either.
(Bear in mind, this is all my opinion. Anyone can feel free to contest what i say here, i dont mind. More responses the guy gets, the more educated the decision he'll make. :-)
