Thread: The last slice (my farewell).....

As he laid the knife on the table, his eyes turned briefly towards the ceiling, toward the spiderwork rafters that supported the roof, as if hoping to hear the whisper of "well done!". Down his weathered cheek a tear slowly crawled, unseen by others.

The finished weapon laid exposed upon the table, wires now fused together like fingers in a death grip. It was a grip that the weapon would soon bring to others, he suspected. His hand trembled slightly as he replaced the metal plate over the opening on the side of the gun. Then with a father's care he slowly sealed and polished untilan eagle could not detect that it had ever been removed.

He carefully picked the weapon up and slowly turned to the customer who had waited silently, patiently while he had done this final job. As he extended the killing tool to his customer, the stranger's hand also came forward with an offering - credits of the realm for a job well done. The coinsseemed to fall from fist to palm slowly, almost as if defying gravity. The stranger stood unmoving for a moment. He knew it was time given to count the coins, butthis time it didn't matter. Finally, a nod from the stranger was returned by him and the man disappeared like so many before him,no words spoken.

Well, that was it then. The last clamp clamped, the last knife dulled, the last tool laid down. He carefully picked up what items were still useful and placed them in the worn leather bag, arranging them in just the right manner as he had done thousands of times before. Only this time, the leather bag was not put back on his shoulder.Instead, he raised it to his face and kissed it once.
Then holding it with both arms, close to his chest, he moved toward the sturdy wooden cabinet at the far side of the room.....

To all my fellow smugglers, past and present: Farewell!

At approximately 10PM last night I gathered my courage, entered the word "yes", clicked a button and said goodbye to Master Smuggler. Not long after, the boxes of the Spices branch and the Underworld tree were once again made available. The time had come to movein a new direction, and unfortunately that direction requires many skill points.

This was by far the hardest decision I have made since I started playing SWG two days after launch. Smugglerwas my first Holocron - a profession I knew nothing about, but fell in love with immediately. I never completed another holocron.

I have been Master Smuggler for 10 months.I probably have close to 1000 posts in this forum.I was going to list some specific good-byes, but I would inevitably forget someone and I'd rather not do that. Suffice it to say I will always be a smuggler at heart and I will always consider you friends, and my brothers in arms.

I will be making one more post, most likely this weekend: I will update my slicing records and post one more detailed report. It should have approximately 95% of all the slices I did in the 10 months I was a Master Smuggler. (I know I forgot to write down a slice here and there... but not too many).

I will not rant about the state of the Smuggler profession as I leave. If you are in this forum, then you already know.

But here's to the Smuggler Revamp...I really believe it will turn you all into the best profession in SWG.

/Salute Smugglers!

I'd like to give you reasons to stay...

But, I've been there with you...and have even cancelled my account at one point. So, I know where you're coming from.

And, just because you're dropping Smuggler, that doesn't mean you have to drop the Smuggler forums with it. You'll always be welcomed here.

It is a sad time and something I have thought about doing myself but I cant bring myself to do it and as I stated long ago I would happily waste tons of skill points to keep master smuggler. Some day I may drop down to less smuggler. For now I will spend an extra 15 dollars a month to buy a new char instead of dropping smuggler.

Dont feel like you cant post just cause you are no longer a smuggler.. you will always be welcome here.

I'm considering to take that decision myself, for many months now, can't yet manage to "type the yes".

sad thing, but we smugglers are becoming lesser and lesser everyday.

they told us "you'll get love in JTL", we even had some point where smuggler should have been added to JTL expansion specific profession, but again, nothing... I'll hold the title for a little while I guess, sorry to see you go, but happy in some way cause you'll get more love somewhere else.

I understand your sentiments but am sorry to see a great Smuggler leave the profession.

Don't be a stranger. You are always welcome here.

I gotta say, this really bums me out. Just when I get back into the groove of things, everyone seems to be leaving.

Do us a favor Wayne, leave the profession, don't leave the board.

Somehow I suspect you're saying goodbye so you don't miss smuggler... so we'll be here when you're ready to come back!

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

I went through this just a few weeks ago...it is a strange feeling indeed to put those tools away and know you won't be picking them up again. Each jedi skill I earn takes me farther and farther from the slicing game.
