Well, for some time now, the Smuggler profession has always seemed fairly interesting, it's got some crafting, it's got some combat, it's got some social... seems to have a little of everything.
Now, a few questions I've got regarding this... what would be a good server to create a Smuggler char on? And what about templates? I'm thinking of keeping the guy as a Pistol user, picking up the Speed part of Pistoleer, Pistols line of BH, Master Smuggler of course... but what else?
Really, any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The best server to create your character on is the imaginary server where smugglers arent broken and ignored. Some people like to use TKA with smuggler since you have the unarmed line of brawler are a pre-requisate.

Hum, Triple Threat? (TKM, Smuggler, Pistoleer?)
I'm also hearing about a change to the TOS or something that makes it VERY risky to slice items due to the possibility of the other person just being able to claim you won't give the weapon back, so you'll get banned or something? o_O After hearing THAT, I'm starting to have some second thoughts on starting a Smuggler char...

The Germans are nice and fun to play with when they let me in on their fun by speaking english (I don't know a single word of German).

I dunno about that. Only an idiot would want a smuggler banned because a slice didn't come out the way he wants it.

One caveat. If you're going to be a smuggler, I'd recommend also being a roleplayer. In the very least a passive roleplayer. Otherwise, the profession is a little south of useless. We've got great content skills, but as the game currently stands, (ie people grind to master, then d*ck(can you believe that's a banned word but slicewhore isn't?) around grinding money or fighting in front of starports) we don't have much to offer.
As much as smuggler is the most frustrating and neglected profession, it's also the most spiritually reawrding.

My smuggler is on Starsider and I have had some pretty decent RP experiences there. There is even a big RP PA city (Farpoint) although they seem a little exclusionary (real word?) for me. They claim they aren't but everytime I go there I don't seem to get any real RP interaction from anyone. You can become a town member if you "impress" the right people with your RPing "skills". But even outside of that I have met some good people and RPers and had some fun on Starsider.

lol. Farpoint is a little Ban-happy. They use /cityban against the spirit of the game. My guild is very large, and has quite a few RPers, and quite a few PVPers, who all get along. Well, we were having a small pvp scrimmage that involved shuttling from town to town on tatooine. we ended up in farpoint, and withing seconds were all citybanned, and then soon after our entire guild was banned. Overall the people in Farpoint are allright, I think they're been burned one too many times by the non rp-friendly types. They are after all the people who were forced out of Mos Eisley by unfriendly "ubers" so in a way, they almost have a right to be untrusting. At the same time, they do come off as somewhat elitist. But Starsider is the "unofficial RP" server, and there are many RP and RP-friendly towns and cities throughout the galaxy.

And yet, we have nothing...
