Hello
Let me start by saying I am not a smuggler nor ever have been so if I don't know what I am talking about, feel free to let me know.
A friend of mine recently made master smuggler and had them slice some stuff for me. As we all know, slices are random, WUK/AUKs do not matter in terms or resources, etc... and the slices were all over the place. That got me thinking if any of you have ever looked into the quality of the resources that went into the armor or weapon itself? Does that effect the slice? Maybe not an increase in percentage but an increase in the range, leading to the possibility of a 30%+ slice when good resources were used.
If this sounds like it is worth looking into, I would suggest having a MWS make a crate of CDEF pistols (or something that takes a wider variety of resources) with top of the line resources and a crate with low, grind level resources. Also, have a MAS make a crate of Ubese gloves (or boots or whatever else) and follow the same guidelines: one crate with good stuff, the other with bad. Both smiths should also find a way to differentiate between the two in a manner only they will know which is which, thus making the experiment blind.
Obviously, this is where the smuggler comes in to slice everything. The same WUKs, knives and clamps should be used for both crates of weapons as well as the same for the armor. That removes any variability on the smugglers end.
I would be interested to see the results. I can try to organize this on Tempest, but it would be good to see what others do to get a larger sample pool.
Thanks for your time.

Perhaps you missed the post stickied to the top of the forum titled "NOTHING effects slicing...!!!"
There's also a post floating around here, made by GreenMarine (the Dev who actually coded Slicing)...that states that the ONLY thing that has an effect on Slicing is the difference between Slicing 4 and the Master Smuggler box...

i for one have long time been partisan of this theory, but when i finally rechad my Master Smuggler (and while i was Master Armorsmith) i managed to experiment on this particular way, among other things, and no, really, nothing matters in slicing, that completely broke my theory, but i had to face the facts.
*** imagines Caylin getting nervous on the thread and not being able to answer that nothing affects slicing jumping on his chair...***
*** offers a beer to Caylin to calm him down, Guinness will do ok i figure? ***

OK... thanks for answering my question in a constructive manner. Appreciated.
