Thread: Concussion Shot Root vs. Mez
In PvP I'm almost becoming to believe that there should be separate skill sets for PvP and PvE and that the 2 sets can't be used against the other - but that's another debate for another time
I've come back from the Avatar and the thought occurred to me - a root shot on the avatar is pretty pointless because well, the targets have guns, and they hurt, they hurt real bad. If Concussion is changed to a mez breakable on damage, it's conceivable that the ultra hard Avatar could be defeated by a squad of Smugglers (all CL80s of course - no offense to our brothers/sisters under that) who wouldn't go room by room killing everything, but rather, applying mez's, neutralizing the rooms, quickly advancing to safe hallways, FD'ing to shake the agro, and moving to the next room. When combat is required, the squad won't be tuckered out (yeah, I used the phrase - I went there!
I suspect the same principal could be applied to the Mytheerral caverns and other PvE areas. Sure you can build a timer into the shot, but if you've got 8 smugglers - well - have fun with a timer.
hehehe maybe this is a stealth experience nerf - with less kills, less people will gain XP, less people will grind enough to become jedi - Jedi population control - HEY I broke the code!!!
Anyway, any thoughts?
Cheers

As I'm more of a PVE type of player, I'm happy to see concussion become a mez instead of a root - for the exact same reasons you listed above. Not neccessarily just to mez, run and fd...but so it will become easier to focus your attack on one npc at a time, without getting blasted by the other 5 guys agrod on you.
Root has been pretty useless to me overall. The only time I've ever gotten any use out of it is when I do need to run away, and don't want to be followed...but the mez still accomplishes that for me even better than a root.
I won't miss root at all.
Just needs tactics rather than the cheap root and kite.

I just can't see how you say that. Root is far superior to mez for PvE in small scale battles. I have no idea why you're attacking 6 things at once. Previously I'd be able to root an animal and take NO DAMAGE at all because it could never get to me. I'd be able to root a carbine using NPC and take NO DAMAGE at all because I would simply back up to out of range and finish him off. Now with it being a mez, sure if I'm silly and try to attack entire groups at a time I might take a little less damage up front, but each single target will be up in my face bashing me to death quickly instead of stuck in their tracks 65m away like they should have been.
I firmly believe that to be a "5 for Crowd Control" you'd need to have a mez (no target actions, breaks on damage, long duration), root (stops movement still able to do actions, doesn't break on damage, medium duration) and stun (no movement no action, doesn't break on damage, short duration) type skills. SWG doesn't seem to fit that model though, mostly because of the PvP I think. Oh well. I still think PvE is going to be hurt by losing our root spell. Mez will be worthless in bol groups, mez will be worthless in the Necrosis room. Already the 'tactics' for using mez include how to get around content. This is just bad.

I don't see how eliminating the ability for someone to fight back is NOT useful in PvE.. especially in a room like necrosis... mez is great for crowd control, even better than root... because it prevents someone from attacking. Root is great, don't get me wrong, but there are other countless situations where eliminating the possiblity of someone/thing attacking for 45 seconds is more useful than simply keeping them in one place.
Also, just bring a pistoleer along, and you have the best of both worlds. But I also agree that since Smugglers are supposed to be the best at crowd control, having a root in our arsenal (not as good as MP root) would be.. well.. appropriate
