Thread: Let me know if this sounds familiar to anyone...
Hell won't be long before you get your food from McDonald's, find the meat missing from the burger, go in to complain and get your meat, and they tell you they're aware that some customers didn't get meat in their burger, and they're aware of the problem, and that you should come back tommorrow to get the rest of your burger.
What really freaked me out is, I was thinking of the similarities between this application we use and SWG...and it suddenly hit me..."Wait a minute, isn't GM's name Brandon?"...
I checked his post that's stickied on top of the forum, and IT IS!
Is he moonlighting or something?
The guy who does the development work for our application also seems to be the top dev at his company, and seems to get pulled off of our seemingly small fixes to work on larger projects (like the new version they're working on)...
The similarities are just frightening...
But it's not...
I work for an electric company. And this is the application our company uses to track such things as changes to our system and outage management.

BTW...THIS is the company that developed our nice utility automation application...
Do they have a forum?

It's all over big corporations. Retardism. It's a disease spread by buzzwords, fueled by ignorance, and not contained because of pride. Swift kicks to the nards is what they all need.
Oh...don't even get me started on cost...we paid on the order of several hundred thousand for the initial setup...and then they sent us a bill for support and maintenance...$45,000 for the year...(some screwy forumla they use calculates maintenance based on the number of meters we have on our system...it's something like 10-cents per meter)...
Kinda brings our $15 / month for crappy service into perspective...

Proprietary SQL based application that feeds data down from a server to clients...
Multiple fixes needed to the application, ranging from large fixes to maps to smaller fixes like changing numbers in a formula that calculates a fairly important value...
Numerous calls to tech support reporting your issues and trying to get fixes...
Tech support personel taking note of your issues, but telling you they will have to pass them on to a developer, and he'll be getting back with us...
Brandon is the only developer who can help us...
And...before we get the small changes we're looking for...they're releasing a new version in the next month or so...
Sounds alot like SWG...don't it?
But it's not...

Sometimes I sit in my office and wonder if SOE has gone into the Utility Automation business...
I just thought I'd share this with all of my Smuggler brethren.
This sounds alot like the last date I was on. Sadly most things this day in age are like this, LOLOLOL!!!!
(And, NO, I wasn't having problems programming my robotic girlfriend!)

That's kinda creepy Dreven... I actually thought you were making some sarcastic comment about swg then you drop the bomb

I was quite surprised and disturbed
Welcome to the world of application development. His description is far more common then you'd want to believe.
There is a phrase to describe all this,
"Its Good Enough for Government Work."
Lowest Bidder is 99% of the time also lowest quality. Of course the other 94% of the time the other guys are also the lowest quality.
