As someone who is totally pissed of by the Jedi's and wannabes running around everywhere, I am considering going BH. As one not up on the technical aspects of professions (I only know what the boxes say). I was wondering what people thought of Master BH and Smuggler (dropping the worthless spice tree).

At least I can get some revenge on little Johnny from Utah and his sabre wielding school chums for the neglect in their favour of smuggler?

I guess the only thing I can say is: think long and hard about which (if any) Underworld skills you actually make use of (or plan to make use of). The set-up you've described leaves you with 4 skill points, so if you free up 2 or more you can get some Pistoleer or TKA (or Carbineer but most people don't do that) to go with the BH/Smuggler. If you're Neutral then you can drop all of Underworld, giving you 18 extra skill points.

If you're not Neutral, then how many boxes you keep in Underworld depends on three questions:
1. Do you plan to sell Faction Points? If yes, then you've got to keep Underworld 4. If no, then drop both Underworld 3 and 4.
2. Do you Pvp? If yes, then consider keeping Underworld 2 as you lose fewer FPs when you die and your killer gains fewer FPs from the Deathblow. If you don't PvP, then drop Underworld 2.
3. Do you have any desire to purchase Faction perks? If yes, then consider keeping Underworld 1 as it gives you a 10% discount on Faction perks. If no, then drop Underworld 1.

If you drop all of Underworld then you'll have 18 skill points to put into Pistoleer (compliments BH and Smuggler nicely) or TKA (doesn't really compliment BH or Smuggler but you already have Unarmed 4 so it's certainly an option) or Carbineer (not really recommended). Personally I would go Pistoleer (not only because I love Pistols haha) because you can get some useful skill mods like Speed, Accuracy or Defense vs. States. Any of the Pistoleer trees except Grips would be a good choice; the Dodge skill mod is really only useful once you hit Master Pistoleer, having just a little Dodge doesn't do all that much.

Thanks for the advice, maybe I will leave the BH alone as losing Master Snuggler title is not something I really want to do (it's just those Jedi piss me off and wreck the game).

Maybe someone with good knowledge could advise me on what they think of a template I am looking to work on in the hope of earning a bit of money whilst still being combat effective.

I am looking at Master Smuggler, Master Pistoleer, Scout 0040 (Hunting) and Artisan 0040 (Business).

I think this will make my character more smuggler like (smuggly) with legitimate and underhand business activitiesas well as a level of self reliance.

Does anyone think I am wasting SP in Business 4?

It will hurt to drop my lovely Pike, but business is business.

Naturally, that setup wont get you far with melee stackers (and those with ranged profs that arent totally borked) who're good pvpers and have the best possible equipment. You get 47 melee def and 7 ranged def with the setup. Your defense VS states will be simplyso-so (not comparable to melee stackers), but you'll need a ton of AAs and CAs to compensate for your all around defense, especially ranged defense (even with aakuan rings and a BE backpack, you're looking at 20 ranged defense). The mitigation ought to help in this matter (3 for ranged, but only 1 for melee), but currently, the offense of pistoleers, specifically without the BH line, is greatly underpowered.

Frankly, if you want a strong pvper, you can opt for taking up master smuggler/TKM with fencer defenses (no ranged capabilities). If you wish to feel like a street-tough smuggler who isnt as strong as those with combat-stacking templates but can fight both up-close and from a distance, you can try the triple threat route. And if you can wait for the combat revamp, the setup you mentioned will prolly be more viable since pistoleer will hopefully be fixed (you might still lack in defense, though...but who knows? They might be toning down defense stacking anyway). I suppose it isnt a bad idea, having scout to harvest some of your own resources for spices and selling the excess (though i'd advise you to get some harvesters or simply buying cheap ones since quality doesnt matter), as well as business 4 to be more capable of handling your vendor yourself (once again, since our products are limited, this might not prove highly useful). You'll get more of a JoaT-feeling, even thougheither tree wont be of great use to you.

My advice? Go with whatever you findfun.

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, How can we do this and not make another EQ? We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen."
