Thread: Cool Idea for Languages
- Basic: Every species has the ability to learn, understand, and speak basic. Except for wookiees cannot speak basic. The key here is every species must be taught basic. not have it already
- Shyriiwook: Every species has the ability to learn and understand the ancient wookiee language but not speak it. which I think is the way it is now anyway. Since wookiees cannot speak any other language its important that people can understand them in order not to overly effect play for some.
- Native tongue: Every species can speak its native language automatically. Humans that means only basic. Which means essentially humans can only ever have basic and an understanding of shyriiwook.
What does this do? Well not a lot really except for immersion. Essentially everyone speaks basic anyway. Except for wookiees. The key component here is that smugglers knowing all languages now have a little value in knowing all languages as you can now speak in the native language of the person you are speaking with if you wish to be "secretive" about your conversation. So if you wanted to speak to a trando in dosh only trando's could understand you. and of course other smugglers.
Does it help us with anything in our profession? No not really but I think it would be fun and it has little or no hinderance upon other players in anyway. Though there is a slight disadvantage to the wookiee smuggler as he can still only speak in shyriiwook. It does give a little value to the smuggler ability and would certainly help in immersion of all players in the game and make cantia spam more interesting

yeah thats pretty much what I'm saying thing is in this manner nobody is really inconveinienced because 99.99% of players speak basic anyway. And smugglers wouldn't become interpreters for that.
I like the protocal droid thing idea too. That's an option I hadn't thought of maybe the protocal can translate for the owner or something. Though with the fact that every can speak basic and understand shyriiwook it makes it more or less just a novelty.
but then the whole idea is based on just a novelty /shrug
