Thread: Concussion Shot Nerf

Hmm... I think even more tragic than the slice upgrade is the nerf of our 'root' attack. That nerf has turned us into a wimpy combat class. We can't take hits very well and now can't root critters out of reach. Also my usual group was used to me rooting mobs so melee didn't have to run all over while chasing mobs that ping ponged between ranged agro. Now once again melee have to run all over chasing mobs and it's a mess. They should at least up the usefullness of taunt. I'm -always- pulling agro and nowadays that pretty much means I'm going to get beat up if not just dead. Sure it still helps with crowd control... until some idiot in the group shoots that mob and then continues to shoot it with auto fire (these people I usually just let the mob eat), but it's not as effective as it used to be. I doubt they'll restore it to how it was but I can whine today since it's patch day! Tomorrow I have to start to learn to get over it though I guess

I like the way this special works... unfortunately it kills your root as it pretty much turns this into a "mez" ... but if you have some pistoleer you can still root and shoot. I think concus will work well in situations where you have multiple targets while soloing, or /dueling multiple people. Also try KD + concuss in a /duel ... then follow up with a high damage hit just before it refreshes... rinse repeat.



The main problem with "crowd control" when it comes to this game... is mainly that most folks playing have no idea how a group functions and how roles work... and have no experience with mezzes and what not... give it some time, and don't group with morons (I know .. tall order)

Wait till publish 20 or 21, even our new found abilities that allow us to actually be crowd controll are getting nerfed.... WHY?!

Personally I have done very well with the fixed panic shot and concussion shot solo. Of course I can imagine how frustrating it can be if you are in a group and people don't care or understand about an applied mez.

In theory concussion shot didn't get nerfed, it was previously bugged. THe info on concussion shot said, prior to Publish 19, it makes it so you're opponent can't move until they take dmg again, or the time on the rott runs out. So they pretty much fixed the bug in it, although it is unfortunate.

from a previous discussion - but my 2 cents worth


I am a master pistoleer/smuggler (CL80)and play the game primarily solo. Not having a root shot is devistating for me. They talk about improving the game for solo play this is a step back. Perhaps the answer is to have different attacks act differently depending whether you are in a group or solo.


It is hard enough now, I mean pre-publish 19. I cannot take on level 90+ critters since I just dont have enough hitting power. Even with root - I manage to die often enough fighting CL82 mobs,since i need to be so close.


The game should be challenging (I get that now) it should not be impossible expecially for a solo player. There are any missions I cannot attempt, even with root, expecialy those with multiple mobs.


Ans as a solo player, how the hell and i going to get the special drops for slicing !!!

Where to begin on this...


If it was never intended to be a root shot. but a mezz shot, then our attacks need to be more devastating... the pre 19 root was the only thing that made this class soloable...


this is one of the worst things to happen to smugglers to date. The slice "Fix" was at least what we were asking for, just terribly implemented. (and hopefully well se some sort of fix on that end.)


Whoever came up with this change on the smuggler's bread'n'butter needs to be bound, gagged, and dragged behind a semi carrying pigs with diarrhea.

Indeed. It was supposed to suck BEFORE, too!


At this point, I'd muchrather trade it in for a real root. Loooooong cooldown and all. Panic is a better mez (it can be reapplied! *gasp*), so what we NEED is a good root that doesn't break. And a knockdown. AAaaaand some pie. And beer.


And a jedi-swatter?

WHY?.....After all this time is it not easier to change the dialog in the skill tree, than to nerf the shot that we have been using all this time?


WHY?.....Would you make our proffesion intoa npc loot drop dependent proffesion.....Now customers will bring their "Uber spawn camped" parts, we inturn will lose even more profits.


HOW?.....Is a smuggler supposed to grind jedi after using slicing for so long?

Because a fourty second unbreakable root is only usefull against idiots who can't bother themselves to bring anything other than a knife to a gunfight. Changing the text to reflect a bug in the system does not fix the bug.

A jedi with not many skills with a rifle....is not going to bring a gun to a fight. As it stood....the only thing that could effectivly damage me (M smug MRifle) was a BH/RM....usually.....The ability, however only worked on 1 v 1....and if you missed that Conc shot....which happened more often then you would think, you were SOL

Risk vs Reward my buttocks.......No, now we are like every other crafter.....we rely off others, meaning the old prices for a slice, have just reached the level of a normal crafters, and in some ways surpassed it.

Why would a Smuggler want to grind Jedi? I don't know of many true Smugglers who could answer either question.


I want to grind jedi...after I unlock everything. And M smug WILL be the profession I hang onto as long as possible after I hit padawan. And BTW.....Smugglers are soon to be in the same boat as a Jedi....Hunted by BH's we shall be....and united with the powerfull Jedi we will stand *cough*

Risk vs. Reward is all well and good, but in this case, it's Risk AND Reward for whomever loots the component. Not for the guy that pushes a few buttons on the slicing window.


Don't kid yourself. We're not crafters. Crafting services vary and improve based on effort on the part of the crafter to find ideal noncombat materials, learn which combinations work best, acquire experimentation boosts. We aren't any different from one another. Someone brings a good Krayt tissue to a WS, they pay for the other materials and expertise needed to make it into something useable. They can't walk two doors down to a cheaper WS and expect to get the same value at lower cost. WE on the other hand, are completely interchangeable. Hand us the components, we all give the exact same results. So if you don't like one guy's prices, you can visit any of the other thousands of smugglers on the server to get it cheaper.. and ultimately for free (or close thereof).


So the risk is on the part of the looter. And the reward isenjoyed by the looter and the final customer. The slicing-window button-masher doesn't fit in either of those roles.

Nicholas_Frost sorry to disapoint you m8, In the end im a customer too! and i did'nt start a smuggler, i had fun mastering proffesions "when it meant something" but like many other's i feel after all is said and done and i unlocked my FS, yes i would like to be a Jedi. Much like the majority of SOE's customers, and if that's not true why would the main complaint be "theres too many Jedi".


Again, bug or no bug, it was in live for soooo long, you DO NOT punish those who have become acustomed to it for so long because you left this ongoing"BUG" in game for such a lenght of time. and yes it is easier to remove/replace the dialog than to frusterate so many players by revamping a bugged shot that was the only thing to allow them to be of any true use in combat!


And on the "Risk Vs Reward" topic, lets use medic champ! as a medic you heal people you recieve medic xp..right? than you build up your healing trees 0-0-0- than you craft you than gain medical crafting xp...right? now you can build the last tree -0 which happens to be med crafting tree, the one that allows you to craft the needed supplies for your proffesion...right?


OK with that in mind take a look at this.....the journey to master smuggler...


in-order to gain language skills and be a fixer....you must shoot your pistol!


in-order to slice terms, weps and armouragain shoot that pistol some more!


in-order togain what little of combatshots we have....you must use that lil' ol pistola yet again, but wait this time it almost makes sense...until


in-order to craft our spices we need......."Drum Roll Please" anyone?.........COMBAT XP!


in the end you did'nt see any tree there list our needed supplies for our main job "slicing"...Because they hav'nt added our much needed 5TH tree...it could be Star ship crafting xp wait maybe even dancer/musician xp!


Don't tell me this system is "Risk vs Reward" m8, its purly "Camping = Reward".
