Something does happen - read the text in the user interface (the bit that lets you decide what colour you're going to slice). Once you've used a clamp the text above will tell you whether to cut the red wire or the blue wire first. Simply do what it tells you to and the success of the slice is guaranteed

OK - any of you experience this?

I have my clamps and knives in inventory, along with some Locked Containers.

I use the clamp, cut the indicated wire, and get a message in the popup window that the item has been successfully opened. A clamp and a use on the knife disappear from inventory.

The item in inventory is still a "Locked container", and I got no experience for unlocking it, although I got the success pop-up, and used a clamp and a knife. I can try and slice it again, and the same series of events happens. So far, out of 11 locked containers in inventory, only 2 have actually unlocked (despite all having given me the popup saying they were).

I have submitted a bug report, like that will actually accomplish anything.

Any insights?

Have you actually read the text to see what wire you need to cut?

Regardless of you using clamps and knives, if you do not read the text they wont open, and the messages you get say that you have successfully used the tools, not unlocked it.

Check and make sure you have space in inventory. You may need up to 4 slots because some containers have more than one item in them. Also make sure the container is in the top level of your inventory and not in a backpack or satchel.

Other than inventory, I can't think of a good reason why it would fail. Not getting xp sounds like a bug. If this is only happening today, you migh try to /sit, and /logout for 30 minutes or so. If this has been happening before and after a server reset, the bug report is a good start.

Keep in mind, they will not respond to you personally with a bug report. I imagine the reports go onto a big list of bugs for them to sort through and determine if they need attention but they do not go back to fix a player or communicate. In addition to the bug report, open a CS ticket. They normally respond fairly quickly to a ticket.

indeed, if done correctly you should be using a clamp and two knives, as you have to cut both wires in the correct order. always read every window.
