Now, I know we are all our own people here. We all, well most of us, create our characters, and even if we don't RP religiously, we know who our character is and what they would do is one or two given situations. But, honestly, is anyone else tired of people classifying us as money-grubbing, drug-dealing, dirty-fightin', mongrel-motherless sons of goats? Again, to each his own, but I'm getting a tad miffed whenever I read forums about spice or slice pricing (not my intention to bring up that issue in this thread) and see four or five posts saying "Why not, we're smugglers, we can because we're dirty-rotten scoundrels."
I mean, and even if you were going strictly off the movies or the EU, sure Han was a money-grubbing smuggler, but he found a cause and became more than that, even though he was still a smuggler. Booster Terrick was a smuggler, but he too found a cause. Mirax, Booster's daughter, was married to a Rogue-Squadron pilot, and former CorSec detective Corran Horn. She was just a nice lady with a good head on her shoulders, who simply moved items people wanted from one place where they were legal, to another place they weren't.
Really, I'm tired of being lumped into a subclass of cheap idiots who'll take any fight and any cargo for a few credits. Me? I'm just a guy with a job to do, sometimes it's legal, other times it's not, but usually it's done quietly with class and style and a bit of sophistication. You know the right people, you say a few nice words, grease a few palms, and the gun always stays put, like it's supposed to be.
Who is your smuggler? Is he just someone out for the almighty credit? Does he have a chip on his shoulder? Or is he somone who just wants to make enough to get by and go to the occasional cocktail party? Andrenaline-junky hot-shot pilot? Maybe you used to be law enforcement, but the pension just ain't cuttin' it, so you turned to an "Import-Export" Business. Or someone a little more subtle who just knows the right people and never has anything more than a quiet flight and full cargo bay?
