I have a couple thoughts I would like to share with everyone.
First the most recent issue.
The FD problem that is being addressed is not a problem within the Smuggler Profession; instead it is an issue between Bounty Hunters & Jedi's. I don't agree with the removing of FD in PVP, but I do admit that there is a problem here. But, if SOE would have communicated it to everyone and opened discussion it most likely would not have reached the level it is currently at. I am really disapointed in SOE for not communicating to us that this change was coming or that you were even thinking of changing it. The lack of communication is not acceptable, talk to us, common ground can be found.
I would be accepting of a 60 second FD timer, i.e. you can only be FD'd for 60 seconds or whatever time we decided on. I just used 60 seconds as an example. This would allow real smugglers to continue to use it like they have while preventing the young solo Jedi from being able to prevent a BH from killing them. Another fix could have been to place FD in the Master box, a real smuggler would not have an issue with this either.
But the most crucial issue within smuggler is that we don't smuggle. We do need Smuggler Missions & player smuggling. Here are my thoughts on this.
First, I like the purposed smuggler missions we have been hearing about for the last, ummm, several months, years, whatever. If they ever make it to live this will help ease tensions for all those who really want to smuggle.
Second is an idea for smugglers to be a part of the player economy and allow us to role-play with other real people. That is now that we will have increased contraband scans, lets take it to another level.
My idea would be if a player has more than X amount of sliced goods or spice, they will always be found by the scans, unless you are a smuggler. This way when a Weaponsmith or Armorsmith needs to transport their goods from one planet to another, they would hire a smuggler. Now to add more role-playing, I suggest that SOE creates a lockable container that the owner could use to store their goods in then deliver it to the smuggler. The container would stay locked until delivered to the new location.
To take it a step future, maybe allow the smuggler to slice the container to try and steal the goods, clamps should not mean 100% open rate here. But, if they do this they run the chance of allowing the original owner to place a bounty on their head for stealing goods.
And I am sorry SOE, but I know you have said that combat professions are being addressed first, but we have been waiting for long enough for some attention, so get to it. And, if we are not a combat profession, then why is does our profession require both entry level combat professions?
When I bought this game, I was wanting to create a Han's type character. Since he was a major player in the Starwars lore, I thought smugglers would have had some attention, I was wrong...
These are just my thoughts, take them as you will...

here is another nonsense thread on the bria forums

Smugglers, my brothahs we need to unite or this will be a skill no longer of use to us.
They want a solution to FD then lets come up with something that our community will support rather than yet again another fix we must endure to appease the jedi / bh wars.
I say we make FD a skill you either only get at 0/0/4/0 or master smuggler and make it work again so you can get away!
Nobody is crying nerf FD because they are getting "pwned" by smugglers! they are crying because BH's and jedi are picking up the skill to avoid getting killed. If they forward a fix based on this and this alone it is the SMUGGLER that will suffer the nerf the most!
