As I understand it, when the Smuggler 'Update' goes live the only way to get spice is to do smuggler missions. Either skim some off the top of the shipment you're smuggling or take a smaller amount as a reward for finishing the mission.
My concern is that people have already begun to stockpile spice, we all know how easy it is to make a ton of this stuff for real cheap. A single smuggler working for a couple days could support a decent size guild for MANY months. This is going to make our smuggling missions(while fun) useless as a way to make money for a good while.
One reasonable idea that came up in a conversation was that maybe when the patch goes live, the existing spices on the server are given a shorter duration, less power, or bigger downer than the new stuff we will be able to 'smuggle' to our players.
Just an idea, hopefully they have thought of this already and are working it out.

I'm guessing that the revamp will bring better more usefull spices. (I hope)

What I'd hope is this, which is sort of what you suggested:
Give all new spice gotten from missions a "refined" or "pure" in the title. This will make it obvious that the stuff from our bathroom LSD labs will be inferior, either with bigger downers, possibilities of a bad batch, etc. I mean, who do you trust to make your weapon, guy with a generic crafting unit in the back of an ally, or a guy with factories galore and supply lines out the wazoo? Same thing here, homemade spice quality should go down, but still work, and the new stuff should be explicitely labeled as being superior refined stuff made by a crimelord or something.

I just hope that if the devs plan on nerfing the current spices so that the new ones are more beneficial and profitable(to us),that they let the player base know so they don't bothermass producing the current stuff. I can't see them just eliminating stuff like muon and pixie from the game so I fear that the new stuff won't be useful for a long time.

If old spice (hahahahaha,..can't help but laugh) becomes a unbalanced variable, the developers will probably either warn people that when the CURB hits that current stockpiles will be locked in the crates rendering them useless or just wait till they use themselves up. Those people using the old spice will place themselves at a disadvantage in the long run as other players learn the new system with new spices.
With the new ham changes, it may be the case that old spice simply won't work. All the people stocking up will just be left with decorations. Really can't say until we see some more information coming out. Good forum topic though, I'd give you 5 stars if I had them. Here, have a Gostie: N

I wonder if the new spices will be useful at all, so stockpiling might be futile, since the stats are changing. What good would muon do if mind can't be hit and acts differently and can only be changed so much. I think old spice (sorry couldn't resist) won't be useful.

You got it, right on the head. My factories have been going non-stop since the notes were public. Yes im stocking up, if they are useless oh well, but if they are valueable i'll be rich. Either way i got nothing to lose.

Oh... maybe the old spice still makes a good eau de toilet after the CU.
Moun Gold... seperates the Masters from the n00bs.

I hope we at least get to keep the crates.A giant pile of spice crates really tie the room together.

Considering that most of the spices affect secondary stats that won't exist anymore, I can't see many of them being that useful. Also, knowing that they have said that spices should be the most powerful buff since it is the only buff with a drawback, I would think that the power ratio would render the old stuff not useful.
It'll play out the way that the chef revamp did with food. How many people do you know of that use some of the old chef food that don't exist anymore??? Not many, if at all. The stuff we have now was changed to adapt to the revamp. The same will be done with spice as was done with the chef food.
Also, considering the post CURB environment, no one really knows what the power levels or impact will be. We have been warned several tiems to not compare what we know now to what the game will be like post-CURB. Apples and oranges and all that jazz....I'm not going to get concerned by it since there isn't much market now, anything would be an improvement (well mostly anything).

Meh...spices last a few minutes, a you can go through a crate in a day. And once these changes you say take place, the price will go way up, and make it very tempting to sell, spreading out the existing supply, and making dissapear faster.
