Now i haven't played the game for all that long, so this idea may have been hashed out already, but i'm gonna throw itout there anyway.
Also, I know this idea isn't very RP, but hear me out. I'll try to explain that too.
Here goes...
There are already items in game that contain a flag that forces them to be stored in either top level inventory or in your bank. I would suggest adding this flag to all contraband (unless of course that makes it no-trade as well, my memory is fuzzy on this). This would, in effect, eliminate the "stick it in a droid" and "shove it in a backpack" methods of evading scans, and, possibly, create more of a need for a smuggler to help you get your stuff from point A to point B.
Now, like i said, this isn't a very RP idea. A real smuggler would do whatever (s)he could to put the contraband in the absolute last place you would think to look for it. But RP can be taken too far. I mean, I don't see anyone asking the Devs to give us the ability to put spice in balloons and shove them up our rectums. Sacrificing a little RP to add some danger to the contraband system would be worth it in my opinion.
Its just an idea I had. Maybe it will be worthless after the revamp, maybe not. I'm just always thinking so i thought i'd share.

I just think their should be harsher penalties for people caught with contraband. Basically all it is now is a small fine, some lost faction points, a slap on the wrist. They should make the penalties much heavier, then it would actually feel like contraband is illegal.

We've asked for the droid 'exploit' to be fixed repeatedly.
We've also asked for tougher scan consequences...repeatedly.
Most of us long-time Smugglers have figured out that the devs do whatever they please with little heed to us.

How about the devs fix the code for the scans?

i agree completely spinningcloud, that why i thought i'd give an option using existing game code. very little additional coding needed. just adding the flag...

backpacks do not affect the scan. Droids, however, do, but that's by design, back when they were trying to fix DE's. Their arguement is that a droid can only hold 10 items but hey, that's still 50 items.
This idea, in some form or another has been floated, but the problem isn't the code, the problem is the devs allowed that back door purposefully.

thanks JTGAlpha. that's really all i needed to know. when did they change the backpack thing? didn't it used to be that they negated scans? or is my memory getting faulty in my old age? could be... anyway, just wanted to know if this had been hashed out already or not. thanks.

I seem to remember some talk of it, yes. But I can't remember if it was just a mild misconception, part of the plan before implementation that was stricken down, or some poster's hairbrained idea.
