What is the benefit of Master Smuggler other than title?? I looked through the faq's and did a brief search of the forum and didn't find an answer. I used a character builder and there is no difference in skills or abilities from Master Smuggler and smuggler 4/4/4/4.

I think the best benefit is that you've proven you can take the abuse from the Devs, suffer the taunts of other players, and earned yourself a place amongst this motley bunch. I'll take that over a bump in Slicing percentages anytime..

With CU I can honestly say Master Smuggler is now worthless. The only benefit is the improvement to our ranged specials.
If the CU remains as it is now, with damage/speed Caps on weapons, MS isn't as important for the slicing boost. Most AS/WS types will likely find good resources and hit the cap on their weapons without ever needed them sliced. Even if they don't the best slice we're likely to get is around 10% or under. Don't need MS for the big slices anymore.
We are destined to be nothing more then a profession people dabble in.

I have "heard" many rumors of upcomming changes for the Smuggler.
One rumor has us being given the ability to loot ship cargo holds in space. Ships are now equiped with cargo holds for the upcomming expansion which allows players to mine asteroids. Cargo hold fills with mineral deposits from mining, so it makes some sense that said cargo hold can be looted.
Another rumorsays we will get a spice revamp to where the abilities needed to make spice is changed toa quest based reward type of thing. Like, you need to do a smuggler quest to get a schematic for a run of whatever spice it lets you produce via the food factory.
Whatever the case may be, right now Smuggler isn't much of a profession in it's own right and I personally can't give any real reason to get to Master. The weapons we get for the Master box most certainly doesn't make it worth the SP cost to have.

The docs about the smuggler revamp are currently on the In Concept forum. Needless to say they're far from set in stone, but as conceptualized, spice will enter the universe either as a reward for the successful completion of a smuggling mission or by intentionally stealing it from your employer. The post itself can be found here. Presumably, the higher your smuggling skills, the better the mission/the more likely you are to be able to complete it.
Interesting points about slicing. However, when people do need something sliced, I'd bet they're still going to want to find a master.
As far as looting cargo holds goes, I haven't heard anything, but in general, anything that could be considered stealing from other players is going to have a hard time being implemented.

Actully from what I've been reading in the WS and AS forums Slicing is the only way to cap a weapon or piece of armor. The main difference is a basic WS or AS with average resources will need a higher slice then a 12pt smith with good resources. However from reports so far no one has sliced high enough to caps the Basic smith.
