Did anyone read the post on space mining? Of course you did. So now we have a large resource base that comes from space and needs to get to the planets below. Everyone who wants to take it to the planets below needs go through a space station. Why not let smugglers bring in resources from space with out paying the empires brutal taxes? Why not? Why not? Why not? I don't know. Someone please tell me. Why not make having certain resources illegal in certain zones? Like planets where you can't build a house if you take space resources from there and you enter hyper space the empire comes after you. Not with a star destroyer now. Your not smuggling a jedi, darth vaders son and plans to blow up the death star after all. Not yet anyways. But a Dreadnot cruiser and a few decimaters with a full wing of ties would do the trick. Penalty will be cut your engines. Get searched and lose eather all you contraban, all your contraban and massive faction points, All your contraban, faction points and fined. Or, Faction points, and they take your ship. Or you run for it they disable your engines and take your ship. Or you fight and they blow you to bit and you also in this one case lose your ship. Your penalty would depend on faction placement, and times the offense was commited. If your a rebel pilot you dead. Or, you hire a smuggler (I can almost see the text bubble "can you smuggle this?" with themake a contract ability where delivery is insured by Jabba/Lady Valorian/Nym to sneak your preciousresources into a world where you can safely store it. You pay Jabba/Lady Valorian/Nym their cut, the smuggler his cut (which total should be less than using the authorizedimpiral method) and there you have it. How much code would that actually take? How much lag would it create?Less than random scans does I bet. Just make the system decide in that 1 minute count down before light speed that said non-smugglerplayer with contraban willbe caught and hyperin a dreadnotto get him.

Um...

  1. You don't need to pass through a mining station to take stuff down to the planet. Only to sell resources to NPCs, like the chassis dealer.

  2. A dreadnaught? Are you crazy? They devs won't even put functional corvettes into normal space sectors, much less large capital ships. And why would a lowly smuggler carrying a shipment of some illegalresources get a task force sent after him? You want it doable for the smuggler, not an npc greif every time they hyperspace around with some illegal resources...

  3. More importantly, illegal resources?

  4. The devs are already *supposedly* working on a revamp to include smuggling contraband for us. This would involve us getting an item (or items) from an npc andbringing it to another npc, usually with some challenge in the way, like getting jumped by pirates or mercenaries. This will supposedly be extended to smuggling in space too, I believe they were talking about two different types of missions for space and for ground. Or, alternatively, having different challenges for the same mission depending on whether you choose to move it on the ground or in space.

  5. I'd prefer to smuggle real contraband and spice, not some super and mysteriously "illegal" resources I blasted off an asteroid. With the devs, it's usually one or the other, and while this would be an interesting suppliment to real smuggling, if I had to choose between real smuggling and running from imps who hate me because I shot some forbidden resource from some random asteroid, I'd take real smuggling.

Just be patient, with ROTW and the CU, they don't really have a lot of extra time to do stuff for us, especially with the deadline this close. If, after we don't hear anything about it for a while after ROTW/CU, then we can complain.

check out the In Concept forum for the Smuggling missions idea thread.

they seems to have some reallygood ideas coming down the pipe for us soon-ish.

i'd say shortly after the CU and RotW are here we'll have this looooong awaited revamp.

The key, and appearently the hardest part to implement, is a blockade of some sort. Space and ground blockades. Scanning points. When we have these, then we have smuggling. As anxious as I am about smuggler missions, they sound like glorified treasure maps to me.

On a side note, has anyone been scanned recently? I haven't been scanned since the GCW publish.

1. You do need to pass through the spacestations to land on the planets. Ad i 'm saying that you should have topay a tarrif on your goods. A hefty one. This could be bypassed with a smuggler.

2. Yeah a dreadnaught. Why not? Call it the port athourity.

3. The resources aren't illegal, trafficing them is.

4. They have been working on revamp since game launch. What i'm saying is everything you need is in the game right now.

5. Real "smuggling"right. Trafficingmaterials illegally is smuggling. The dev want to implement a all NPC smuggling function in the game. Basiclly they are putting us on the shelf away from the community. We will havezeroto do with the rest ofSWG. There remaking the game freelancer.

And don't hold your breath ROTW comes out then50 patches to fix it.

I get scanned all the time. In fact, I spend most of my time "on leave" just so I feel like I'm actually smuggling something when they stop me.

Creating content for smugglers will no doubt take a little time to sort out though in the concept forum they have posted ideas about how they are thinking about implementing which are pretty cool.

It takes time to add new content to games like this and at the moment they have 2 large projects they are working on CU and ROTW so i wouldnt expect anything till these are sorted out.
