Thread: Time to talk slicing prices?

I've decided to stop slicing publicly myself, at least until the Smuggler revamp. I've never had a truely "terrible" experience, unless you count the people that constantly /sigh or something when the slice isn't what they wanted, I'm just tired of being a slice monkey for pennies that takes up my time and resources. I can easily make several times the cash in space and it's far more enjoyable for me.

That's just me though, I was charging 5000 credits per slice before the CU.

Is slicing working as intended or is this a mess up?

People who know about the "borked" slicing have still paid 4k a slice, so it seems 4k is still a fair price. ^.^ Though, 100cr per weapon level could work well, too..

Ok... we all know that everyone has their own way of charging for slices... some a flat fee, some nothing, I used a sliding scale myself. Well, post-CU has come around and slicing is really strange. The percentages are wacko(tm), and the percentages on the system messages don't seem to translate into the actual number changes. All in all, it is a mess. I'm still not giving my slices away for free, so here's the new idea:

Charge By Weapon Level

I know... I'm brilliant as well as good looking. It is a curse I have to live with. Anyway, this seems to make the most sense to me given the current situation -- especially since the better the weapon, the worse the slice. It also allow us to charge a pile of money from the rich upper-level players (they can afford it) while cutting a break to the newbies that are just getting started.

Armor... I'm thinking of going to a flat rate. Maybe sliding scale based on percentage, but that really doesn't make as much sense as it used to.

Now, I just have this in the "concept" stage and haven't put numbers on anything (will edit with numbers when I work them out). Just wanted to run it up the flag-pole to see who salutes. Oh, yeah... I've already taken out a patent on this -- so you can all pay me a lisence fee of 5cr/slice.

See? I just can't bring myself to do that... especially since we now get 6% slices at Master.

Do you mean charge by player level? Because if you compare my Renegade to my Featherweight FWG, the Renegade has way more certification requirements to use than the FWG (indicating that it SHOULD be a higher level gun) but at this time the FWG FAR outdamages my Renegade. So in your "Charge by Level" scenario, which gun should cost more to slice?

Also, if a player buys a gun that SHOULD be a higher level in terms of DPS but that gun is particularly poorly made are we still to charge the "Ub3r" price even though the gun itself is far from it?

this is quite simpel the better the weapon/armor is the lower is the slice on it. Just similar to overclocking of CPUs: High end CPUs have almost no potential on overclocking them compared to midrange stuff...

The Slice are more or less constant depanding on your skills and the weapon

Too low for my taste. These are people willing to spend 10s to 100s of thousands of credits on a weapon from a vendor -- millions on the trade forums. Somehow, the phrase "sure, I'll slice your 3.5 million credit weapon for 5k" just doesn't sound right. Maybe that's just me... maybe I'm greedy.... maybe that's why I'm a smuggler!

I'm thinkin' I'm gonna add another '0' to that pricing scheme and I'll like it more. People have gotten too demanding, assuming that any smuggler is happy to slice for pennies. I think that they need to learn that smuggler skills are to be valued, not taken for granted -- and they need to pay for them, not toss us loose change.

In my bio it still says 5k per slice, flat. I'll still give discounts to volume or friends (freebies) or guildies, but there's good money to be made slicing.

EDIT: Okay, after reading about the borkage that is Master Smuggler slicing I withdraw my above statement. Just don't bother until SWG2. (It takes place in a Star Wars universe where the only Jedi are NPC's and there are mayeb 5 of them).

Dude. The green. The bold. Pain. Eyes hurt. Pain.

I used to do 8k per slice. Now I tell 'em to pay what they think its worth. I get a few jerks wo give me 10 creds after I do a suit of armor, but mostly I get aroun 10k+ per slice. If you've got a good rep and deal with decent people, you'll be better off than a flat rate or sliding rate or whatever. Also make sure to explain to them that slicing is not the same as it used to be.

I reckon we shouldn't have this discussion till the Smuggler Revamp comes soon (tm).

As soon as we agree on a universal price, the slicing system will change anyway.
