Thread: 2 very different slicing experiences from last night.

Ok...so I'm running around last night working on gathering up some POIs in an attempt to become "glowy"...(yeah, I know /shame...but what else is there to do for now?)...

Anyway, I hit Cnet on my way to Yavin, and just as I head for the ticket terminal, some guy stops me...

Him: Hey wait!

Me: Yes?

Him: Can you slice something for me?

Me: Sure

Me: Price is 10k.

Him: Per slice???

Me: Yup.

Him: That's a little steep isn't it?

Me: Long story, but bottom line is slicing is a pain. Therefore, I charge alot to make it worth my time.

Him: (Long pause) Ah, ok. nm then.

Me: Cya.

I bought my ticket, headed to Yavin and visited Exar Kun's old pad, then headed to Tat to try to finish up.

After gathering every POI on Tat, I still wasn't "glowy", but I did "feel a surge of the Force."

So, I head to Theed to try my luck with the waterfall. Just as I'm getting my waterfall badge, I get a /tell.

Him: You slicing?

Me: I can be.

Me: Price is 10k.

Him: How about 5k.

Me (thinking: "cool somebody who wants to deal"): 7.5k. <<------figured I'd split the difference and see what he came up with next.

Him: Deal, where can we meet?

Me: Meet me at the fountain in the middle of the square. <<-------- good landmark, works better than trying to sort through the crowd in front of the starport.

Him: omw.

I get there and he hands me a Scatter and a Geo...

28% Damage on the Scatter.

24% Damage on the Geo.

Trade them back...he pays me 17.5k...and we go our seperate ways.

I just thought it was cool how different people react when you tell them a price.

Of course, since I've made my move to Starsider, I've only had 3 customers...the 2 from last night, and 1 my first night. I suppose it'll take some time for me to get back into a routine with slicing.

First of all, it's good to see that you'vestayed with usDreven for whatever the reasons. It's good to see your input.

Second, you're right about the surprise that player interaction offers up now and then. Just whenI think dealing with customers is an endless pain, someone comes up and feeds me some intriguing interaction. I live for that.

I've got a guildie who's a Master Doctor...

So...as long as she doesn't complain about buffing us for free, I won't complain about slicing stuff for free either...

Cool, i never slice because it's a pain but i can be pursuaded, if the customer RPs and haggles over the price. Otherwise i just wont do it, unless its a friend who ask, but that generally implies that they RP and get it as a favor which they can pay back later, or in axchange for a favor they have done for me.

It's a MMORPG and if you don't RP a good portion of the time, then you don't deserve my services or my attention.

Generally i find that new players are very good at RPing, ofcource they mess up several time, and often have questions about things they don't know or understand, and that can be tough to understand, but helping them often is very rewarding.

The contrast between customers is amazing.. A couple days ago a Wepsmith asks me if i'd be interested in slicing for him all the time..Only wanted to pay me 500 creds per weapon sliced, told him where to go.

Then later in the day (now in a foul mood) someone asks for a slice, didn't feel like doing it so i said "it's 15k, im in a bad mood" (in my character bio it says, 5k to 20k per slice, depending on my mood and your attitude), to my suprise, he goes "no problem" So i slice his weapon and he tips me 50k and goes, "hope that cheers you up", "Too right" i replied "I think ill pop a muon"... He has a free slice next time, as he did cheer me up.

That's for damn sure. I have to crack up when a guildie says (and mind you it allways seems to happen when I'm doing something like fighting a NS protector or tanking on a krayt hunt) 'Hey Joras, can you slice a couple suits of armor for me real quick'

Ya very true. Most have gotten to the point where they trust me so they put me on admin on there house and leave a pack for me to slice for them. It is funny though when I am in the middle of the geo cave our out grinding money on dant and they ask me if I can slice a suit or two of armor.

To add to the difference of peoples view on prices. Last night I was running around in Coro getting patched up, and ready for taking on the last missions to achieve master pistoleer. Turned on the smuggler tag just in case there was some business to pay for my upcomming buff, didn't take long for a tell to come in (can't remember the exact words, but meaning is there):

Person1: Do you slice?
Me: Yes, I charge 5k per item. (The pricing will always be the most controversial, better get it settled imediatly)
Person1: I have a few items.
Me: Great, I'll be by the cantina. (so, buff is mostly paid for, I'm happy)
Person2: Can you slice for me?
Me: Yes, in a few minutes or so. I charge 5k per item.
(pause, me waiting for person1)
Person1: I have 25 items, do you have room for those?
(No, we agree on moving them 5 at a time)
Person2: ta (whatever that means) I don't like smugglers ripping people off.
(I don't reply, never in the mood for explaining pricing)

Person1 finds me and if I recall correctly it turns out to be 5 weapons and 20 pieces of various comp. armor, person1 also pays the requested fee, and is even happy as I get some rather nice encumbrance slices, obiviously a PvP guy.
One won't pay 5k for a single item, another pays 125k for 25 slices, peoples view on smugglers and money is very different.
