I've been patient for a long time. I've became a Smuggler in July of 2003, and in fact I was a Smuggler/Pistoleer, which wasn't even a "template" back then since... there were no templates! Well, I've always stuck by Smugglers and the Smuggler community, even when I wandered off to try a few other professions just to see what was out there I kept reading here and supporting my local Smugglers. I've always tried to be positive about us getting fixed up, and I've always held (and still do hold) that our Correspondants would get us to a better place. And recently I've placed my faith in GreenMarine as well. I will still continue to defend him and my Smuggler Correspondant against doubters, but today... I just freaked out.
Reading post after post of whining players who couldn't understand why they had to "wait up to three days" for their visit from the Old Man, and why they had to wait for "Groups" and "Phases" in the Village, well let's just say somebody picked the wrong person to complain to. Here is my post: Clicky
I just frothed over with rage at the words "Weve waited patiently up until now. But im afraid this may be the last straw for alot of people." God, as if they know anything about having to wait.
Well, I submit myself to the judgment of the Smuggler Community.

I added my own comment on the issue. Frankly I haven't a shred of pity for people who did this to themselves.

We smugglers are to damm good at what we do. We managed to go undetected pass the Dev scans of bugs and what class is in need of assistance. I think they are saving the best for last.

Just read both threads, and all i can say is wow...
now, i feel if the devs want to fark up the swg timeline with hordes of jedi, then let them. but i do agree with the fact that since publish 8, the game has separated into two camps. the " i want the shiny toy in the box of cereal" one, where by opening 30 boxes(Proffesions) that get the toy (jedihood/force sense). the other side are the people who like one brand of cereal, and if they get the toy, great(the rest of us). now i don't knock that getting glowy isn't an acomplishment. but how old is that proffession? less than three/four months? how long have smugglers been in the game? how many patches were dedicated to the new proffesion?
how many have there been since the devs first said "oh yeah, we'll fix the Smuggler Prof"?
i bought the game to play a smuggler. if i wind up Force Sensitive, then great. so until the Smuggler revamp comes out, would someone pass me the milk? i got a heaping bowl of cereal. and i'm starvin...

Lol... Some people take this game WAAAAY too seriously... haha... I have no desire to be jedi, and the only way I will take force powers is to enhance my skills of the character I have now.... I am going to try my hardest(unless the devs force me) to NOT become a jedi... I think the devs have this idea:
Nerf them till they glow.
That is nerf all professions untill they deside that its just easier to become jedi. I like smuggler right now and will keep it untill I find something that catches my interest.

I'm with you buddy. Very well said indeed. I'm not paying to play KOTOR: Multiplayer Edition. I'm playing Star Wars Galaxies, and I'll be damned if I'll ever be a Jedi. Yoda is a Jedi, so is Vader. Obi-Wan is dead and Luke is drunk at some bar being congratulated by his squadron for the lucky shot he got off against the Death Star. That should pretty much sum up the Jedi that are left. Besides, if I became a Jedi Vader would kill me. Correction: Vader SHOULD kill me.

Well, I'm a Smuggler since the beginning, also a Pistoleer, so I can see some of your side.
However, I'm also someone who has played the game from day 1. That's PLAYED the game, not ground out professions. I've just about done whatever can be done in the game (excepting a couple of VERY HIGH level content). I was looking forward to Publish 10, the quests contained within, and the possibility of getting to play a Jedi without totally screwing up my main character (I'll have to burn 24 skill points to get the second slot, which will then do it all over again).
Publish 10 comes out and I find that because I didn't grind out professions, I can't even get to START the quests until the hologrinders get done because I didn't do profession after profession after profession. That's the only problem I have with the whole thing. They knew many people would be wanting to get to the village, they should have come up with a better way of getting everyone there. If they had to prioritize, character age should have been the deciding factor. Give the grinders their free unlocks, but the people who have played the longest should get first crack at "gated" new content.
So, I also have waited patiently for Dev attention for Smugglers, and for Pistoleers, and now am waiting once again to enjoy the new content introduced in the game. The "groups" thing is just wrong and it's necessary that the Devs hear our opinion on the matter. Hopefully, I have stated my opinion in a civil manner and not as a whine or a rant, as I feel the civil statements are the ones that are most paid attention to (if any are).

never the less the gating system was not revelaed before the recent th post, adn rewarding grinders is ezxactly wehat they should NOT do
They chagnede the system because they were destroying the community sirit of the servers, so, when someone like me has done all the badges becauseim an explorer, Has been a smuggler for 6 months cos thats what i want to be inspuit eof the prff being broke, and has also been a MAster Politican Mayor, ( building one of the most succesfful metropolis on Dantooine over 4 of those 6 months, and was unable to grind due to 75 skill point sink it was, ) which is not counted towards the grind, you come to pub ten, you get an inner glow but then find youhave to wait, THATS pretty much annoying.

The fact is that MMORPGs are built by businesses. The awakening has happened and companies have discovered that there is money to be had in online gaming. The obvious strategy that emerged is this: the business only makes money if they can keep people in a game that they can never beat or complete... The companies are challenged to find a way to keep gamers playing for years to maintain that income. So, what do they do? Feed out fixes a little at a time. keep the customer wanting more. Put out new content every so often because gamers are curious by nature and will keep coming back to see what's new. Fix the system so that it takes a long time for people to achieve what they want to achieve. People forget the rule of business: Do whatever your customer asks you to do unless it is harmful to your business. They are going to do what they need to do to keep you happy. But, more importantly, they are going to do what they need to do to keep you coming back. Letting you "finish" the game faster... Letting you master a profession overnight is contrary to that. So we see little fixes come out that nerf your ability to grind.... that little bugs happen where it takes longer to slice... where a feature makes it to where you will be visited by an old man at an undetermined time in your SWG career. People leave the game when when they feel there is nothing left to accomplish.
Everything in every MMORPG is broken or needs to be fixed. There is never going to be a perfect game because you cannot please everyone. I am just happy to see the devs actually putting effort into the game. Some things get fixed - Not all things at once, that takes time. Content is being added. The community seems to be going strong. That's good news.
I am happy to be working on a smuggler. I am happy to be part of a profession community where we don't whine like the rest.

I think your response was actually quite measured, you could have said much worse. I feel exactly the same way.
I really appreciate you voicing your opinion to other boards, I think I will start to follow suit. If we do not let the whole community know where we stand we will never gain any support.
The thing that bothers me most about SOE is they continue to say that they will follow the timeline and keep continuity in tact. Really? How many Jedi were in the universe between A New Hope and Empire? They should just admit, at least in terms of the Jedi, they have completly given up all hope in following any sense of the "true" SW Universe. I don't begrudge SOE making a profit, just be honest about it.
