After much thought and carful consideration i decieded that i would cancel my account. I have played Galaxies for 2 years now. I was one of the lucky and first Euroepean players on Naritus after i purchased the game in some small mall in Naidik, Mass. I was so excited about playing has i had followed the game since a very early screenshot of c3-po and R2 next to a speeder on tatooine. It looked amazing and promised so much. Especially being able to become a Smuggler. What can i say, they had me on that note
After loading it up and starting in Mos Espa i was amazed. The player economy was great and everytime i logged on i would see a new item on the bazzar. Slowly everything became available and i would spend my nights traveling across Ttaooine the good old fashioned hard way, on foot
I remember the first time i went to Fort Tuskan in a large group. I would often stop and look out at this mass group of players traversing the mountins or over sandy plains, it was simply awesome. After a couple of months of just expireincing the game i settled on my template of Smuggler and Pistoleer. Around this time a guy called Yyerka approached me asking if id like to join a guild he was forming. I asked him alittle about it and he said it was going to be mainly about Smugglers, i was in This was back in the Mos Crater days and before vehicles so the treck was just that a treck. Soon after i had to leave for University and my time with galaxies would be greatly reduced, i didnt however cancel my account and looked forward to coming home for breaks and weekends and being able to load it up.
I dont really know why i am giving everyone a history of me in galaxies, maybe it will help where i am coming from and help me realise some important issues lol anyway i'm gonna carry on
I recall it being christmas when i returned back home for 4 weeks and i was dedicated to getting Master Smuggler. It was a god awful grind but the different types of expireince needed broke it up abit and made it more bearable. After i made Master Smuggler i was so chuffed, felt like a real achievement. However i would soon start to realise howbad the Smuggler proffession was.
The reason behind Smuggler. I loved Han in the films. That cocky, arogance about him was so damn cool and i wanted to emulate it in the game only through my own character. I wasnt interested in Jedis or light sabers (tho the star wars fan in me knows that light sabers are the coolest thing in film ever, second to han shooting first )
I'm going to skip ahead abit here. JTL came out and alot fo fears and concerns i had about the game were laid to rest. Just being able to beta test was great and i could finnaly see myself trying to outrun imperial ships and bounty hunters as i tried to deliver my cargo to jabba or whoever. I waited and waited and waited and no such Smuggling content came.
It sadens me that for over 2 years they have been promising content for smugglers. I should have been susspicious when they took out The Hutt faction, even more so when the pushed out 2 jedi publishes in a row with the first knocking the Smugg revamp back a year. I wont knock jedi anymore, to be honest i'm bored with it and all the kicking and screaming in the world wont change a thing. Jedi are in this game and there here to stay. I know only a handful of Jedi and i'm glad i only know thos ehandful as they seem to be the most mature and Jedi like players. SOE however are simply using Jedi to get accounts and all they seem to do is turn this game into a giant Jedi Knight game. Its sad because for other players who arnt interested in ever bceoming a jedi, players like myself, we often get pushed back in favour of the glow stick waving loonys
Ive tried creating my own content which has always been recieved well but when put into use or tried proves un popular and tiresome I shouldnt have to try and do these things in order to feel like Smuggler, thats SOE job.
So if i cant smuggle and i have a strong dislike for 80% of the jedi population whats left? well my friends but is it worth it to keep paying for a game i get no ejoyment from anymore. I kept paying because of the many friends ive made and the fact that i still had hope for my proffesion and for the game but now that hope has gone and a good many old friends i no longer see online anymore.
My account will expire on august 13th after that i am going to wate 3 months and purchase a 1 month subscription. SOE will then have 30 days to show me the games changed and that its fun again. Failing that my departure will be permannent. I will delete all links and adress to anything stars wars galaxies accept this forum. The less i know the better is my thinking but i will find out if smuggling ever gets put in and when it does you can bet i'll be back but as the game stands now, i'm through.
Thanks for all the great times, all the bad all the weird and wonderfuly drunk times. I have never met a community or a guild with this much spirit and humour in my life and it truly makes me sad leaving.
