The name is not derived from the drink but from an old word for woodland, due to the original forestation that surrounded the town. Close to Exeter, it is a picturesque coastal village that built up around a smuggler's cove and caves which were once used to store contraband goods. These are now part of the attraction of the town....

hmmm...might be worth checking into ...when Im over on that side of the pond...
