Here's what I recommend for terminal slicing:

Don't bother using a clamp on it, it's simply not worth it. If you fail to slice it, you can always get normal payout missions.

Pick a color, and always slice that wire first.If you fail, no big deal, if you succeed, great.

Look for a mission on the first page that you like, pick one, then refresh until you get another in the same direction. Be careful though, several times I have ended up doing voritor missions because I'm so used to looking for that 31k-32k mission payout.

If you are still grinding slices... don't rely on terminals for exp, because it's only 100 exp per terminal. Just use it like I described when grinding out some cash, and use some of the extra money to buy more containers until you get to weapons.

Once you have terminal slicing ability (acquired at the first branch of the slicing tree) you can bring up the radial menu on just about any mission terminal and attempt to slice it via the 4th option, Slice.

You'll get the slicing window open at that point. From there, you do your magic, and if you succeed you'll get the success message along the lines of: "You have successfully sliced this terminal! Payouts will be increased."

When you load up the mission terminal the missions that appear on screen there will have higher payouts. However, if you press refresh for any reason or otherwise reload the terminal's missions, you will lose the benefit of the slicing you just undertook. You will be able to slice again after each attempt, but you must wait about 2 minutes (120 seconds) between attempts.

Also keep in mind that this payout bonus only applies to you, not to other people.
