I was logged in as my smuggler character about a week ago trying to get buffed to go finish up whatever quest I was working on when I ended up in tell hell. I think I was the only Master Smuggler around and it seemed everyone and their mother needed something sliced (I was quickly running out of upgrade kits). Out of nowhere amidst the chaos, one of my guildmates shows up and needs some armor sliced... actually he needed ALOT of armor sliced, but I said okay and got to work.
For whatever reason he sat there for ten minutes repeatedly writing "*Guildmate who shall remain nameless* gives Jett some encouragement" (/encourage I suppose). He said he thought it would help... I told him what is told to every smuggler time and time again so that they may pass it on to the many confused slicing clients who need to hear it time and time again... Slicing is random. Masters get like 15-35% slices in general, 38% on a good day.
Well I was about to get the shock of my day...
As I sliced away I came upon something I had never seen before...
"The effectiveness of this armor has been increased by 42%..."
I just about lost my shorts...
I told *guildmate who shall remain nameless* and he leapt into cheer. "See I TOLD YOU it works!"
I didn't believe him... It had to have been a bug or blind luck.
But I was about to get another good shock. Amidst the /encourages and the tell hell as I sliced away at the piles of composite armor, about five armor pieces later I came to another shocker...
"The encumbrance of this armor has been reduced by 45%..."
Again... a near loss of my shorts...
I sat befuddled to say the least... I didn't know what to say. As I thought about it, I realized... Not one slice had come out under 27%. I know slicing is random... I've heard it time and time again...
But perhaps this /encourage thing might have some hidden substance to it. An easter egg perhaps? Or just a really good day for slices on Kauri?... I don't know. Has anyone else even seen a 45% slice?

If this is an April Fool's joke, your timing is way off.. I'll go test this now.

When I sliced, I saw quite a few 45% encumberance slices (and 35% other slices too). One timeI *believe* I've seen a 38% "fluke" weapon damage slice, but I chalked it up to bad vision - my eye most likely mistaking the 5 for an 8.
Edit: It's worth noting that the slice ranges are 10-35 for weapon speed/damage and armor effectiveness, and 10-45 for armor encumberance.
In short, you got a few extremelyfortunate (some would say lucky) rolls. The /encourage doesn't affect slicing any more than my advice for smugglers to move two paces to their left or right.
At any rate, what would be interesting is to seeif slicing can be affected via quantum physics...

(Something's up with the browser at the office. Cant seem to quote or change the colour of fonts.)
The values for a Master Smuggler are as follows:
Weapon: 15-35% Damage or Speed
Armor: 11-35% Effectiveness
Armor: 20-45% Encumbrance
Furthermore, ive had incidents in which ive managed to slice 5 pieces of armour for 43% - 45% consecutively. The emote has nothing to do with it, its absolutely random. No one was /encouraging me at the time of slicing.
The customer was merely offering sexual favours in return for a good slice, but without the aid of emotes. I would've struck gold and collected on the offer, but it was being made by a male wookie called HungBacca, or something along those lines.

Yes, I just tested it with a run of 50 slices - not one exceeded the normal slicing range while being bombarded with /encourage macro'ed pcs.
However, I did have rather good luck with the slicing run. But that could have just been luck.

Okay, cool, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't losing my mind. I hadn't realized armor went up to 45% in the first place. I hadn't thought the /encourage had anything to do with it so this just confirms that.
SLICING IS STILL RANDOM (and there was much rejoicing... yaaaaay)
and no it wasn't an April fools joke...

But 20-45% is only for encumberance slices--effectiveness ones don't go above 35%. Was that 42% really effect, or was it actually encumberance?

I'm gonna say more than likely that it was probably an encumbrance slice that I got mixed up... while it could have been effectiveness, there's really no way for me to remember at this point so I'm going to assume it was encumbrance.
Sorry for the confusion...
BTW I just about wet my pants on the Hungbacca thing too, lol
