Thread: nOOb smuggler requires template advice
all depends what you want to do. I really enjoyed the master smuggler/ pistoleer combo but for me its major flaw would be the lack of real damaging attacks compared to crowd control attacks. Dont get me worng its possible to deliver some nice attacks with placed shot, quick draw, overcharge but lets be honest the above is a crowd control template.
I hear CM has some nice attacks but have never tried it. When i checked out the skills though i was plesently surprised with its attacks and looks like alot of fun.
Then theres the Master Smuggler/ Bounty Hunter combo which is what i am currently working on. It has some nice attacks that deal in dmg although i havent had enough time to truly learn it all yet. PLus side on BH are the BH missions which would eman you would be self suffciant with slicing components, a clear advantage in my books along with the assault armour (always my fave class of armour, more from a fashion standpoint than anything lol)
Whatever you go for i do recomend some healing skills. If skill points are low then medic 0040 (or whatever you can get) can often save your hide in combat be it PvE or PvP.
Above all else go for something you enjoy and can have fun with rather than something that you feel makes you uber lol.
Oh and Commando 0040 is rather tasty with concussion shot and stopping shot ![]()
I am working on a Master Smuggler / Master Swordsman / Commando 4000 for PvE and maybe even PvP.
My strategy is a good powerhammer, /feign death if necessary, switch to Smuggler specials with a pistol if I get in a jam, and the Commando's area KD when I accidentally aggro more than I can squish.
Still, in a good and well disciplined group, you can pretty much decide, who you want to fight.
I'm sure the Pistols / Smuggler template works... but it seems a little too much crowd control / not enough damage for my tastes.
BH / Smuggler is fairly powerful, and fun. Good damage specials from BH, good crowd control from smuggler. Only real weakness is weak healing... only enough room to get medic 0020. That being said, I still heal for over 1000 if I have my med droid out and beside me... so I manage just fine. ![]()
TKM / Smuggler is one of the very few ranged / melee templates that actually works... but again healing is kind of weak.You pretty much have to get at least 0030 swords with TKM in order to do decent damage, and that doesn't leave a lot of room for healing. I usedM Smuggler / TKM / swords 0040 / novice med. That being said, I could still solo juvenile / canyon / giant Krayts with that template + med droid + good food usage... and I didn't have to wear armor. Bio clothes for teh win, just don't try much PvP with that one.
I've personally never tried smuggler and commando, but I've heard it's just devastating in PvP with the ability to daze large groups of people at the same time. Major problem would probably be the same old thing though... not enough damage specials, especially since commando has NO specials at all.
I have a friend that's some sort of rifleman / smuggler combo, and he seems to like it. He does tons of damage, but has no healing.
Same here. Personally, not only do I consider Pistoleer and Smuggler do be rather redundant, but BH has specific content, which the elite combat professions lack. You get the components, you can slice the mission terminals to get rewards about 40k (if I am not mistaken) and most importantly: you have some content = something to do!
