Thread: I was asked to be someones DEDICATED slicer ..... any advice ???

I sliced 60 items for this very nice client (gave her a volume discount). We had a nice conversation and she asked if I could do more for her in the future. I was happy to agree to that, but didn't hear from her in a few months ..... I figured she forgot about me or found another MS.


Anywho ... I got an email / tell from her with a proposal to do all of her bulk slicing. She would give me Admin access to a house where I can get the stuff. I think it's a cool idea. I guess I could slice the stuff and send her a "bill" via email so she'd know what I did and what % I got ect.


Any advice, ideas, concerns ..... ?

My advice would be to start slow and see how the arrangement goes until you build a trust with the customer. By giving you access to a house you are losing your security for payment since you will no longer possess the weapons until payment is made. Once you have a good working relationship going then I see no problem with the arrangement. Just be cautious at first.

Yea ... thats the only issue I'm concerned about. I figure that if I get burned, so be it. It's just a game and I'll be trust worthy until I get burned.

I have a similar arrangement with a weaponsmith and what we agreed upon is that I take the best weapon that I sliced during that session and offer that to his vendor for the total cost of that contract and along with that I send him a detailed email reciept listing all the slicing charges for that order. I have never run into a problemusing that method for payment in the past with my contract work.

I would only do an arrangement like that for a person I had known for a while, and at that point I would probably slice for cost of materials. I have done lots of bulk slicing before (iagreed to do 50 sets of composite one time thinking it was 50 PIECES of composite...good thing I had just finished a run of tools...Only then realized that slicing could be VERY profitable) but have never gotten admin to someone else'shouse. That just leaves you open to rants about trust and stealing, and I personally don't wana deal with that. Now I have, on big orders like the 50 sets of composite, dropped a house (i have a meduim housejust for this) and put out bags, unsliced and sliced, then moved the stuff from one to another, but they don't get admin back until I am paid. Imagine if they came up short...oh what todo with 50 sets of stun composite.

A such a perplexingissue. Ive had this situation happen as well and maybe I can offer some advise. On one hand you havea potential mega customer that trusts you enough to not walk out with all their stuff on the other and on the other its someone you dont know that could take you off of the admin list as soon as all of the items are sliced. What Idid wasget half of the money upfront enough to insure you wont lose out on the cost of your tools and keep 1/4 of the rest of the sliced items in your inventory to be traded back to the customer upon payment of the rest of the bill.

I'm not sure if she has a vendor inside or not (I thought about selling them back to her that way). I thought about keeping all of the items until I get paid, but then I'd need a butt-load of backpacks and inventory room. Maybe I'll ask for 1/2 the money up front and keep 1/2 the finished inventory. Then drop the other 1/2 back in the house after I get the last payment. If there are some REALLY good weapons/armor, maybe I keep a suit or a few weapons as payment and leave the rest in the house.

I too would recommend sticking with people you feel you can trust after doing some work for them. If they are prompt in paying up, amiable and you need steady work, I'd say go for it. I've worked out that arrangement with many...many smiths in my time and it has always been mutually satisfactory. I would also bring backpacks and seperate the items by slices and %'s changed so they could more quickly identify things for approx. value when they put them on their vendor.

You might try taking the job and offering everything that you slice to the smiths vender at your reduced price. Whts the limit on a sale like 20 items? that would be the only inhibitating part but thats how I do my thing often.

Ok ...


Here's how day 1 went:



  1. I contacted her and told her I'd be heading to the house

  2. She met me there

  3. She tipped me 200k. The 60 items was to be 120k, so she said she wanted me to have the extra 80k for when I come back to slice more. Like a retainer I guess.

  4. I sliced all 60 items very quickly and put them back in the containers they were in.

  5. She said I could buy any of the items sliced, just to let her know which one and she'd sell it to me below her vendor cost.

  6. She didn't want to know the numbers, unless it was a 35% ("cuz that will make me smile" .. she said)

  7. I emailed her an account of my activites (including the fact that I got two 34%s, but no 35s) and that she overpaid by 80k. That overage would be payment for future slices.

  8. I left happy.

She got some excellent slices ... I got paid upfront ... so far so good. This could be a VERY nice situation.
