Smuggler Archive
Thread: Just looked at the Non-Jedi force abilities...
We should start setting our angle as a class as to what 'FS' benefits we might have, even if they (probably) won't acknowledge that skill tree as viable until it's in the game.
Remember that the only good Smuggler we have to base ourselves on (from the movies) is Han Solo, and he was notoriously scornful of the Force. It may be that as a class we're such devout pragmatists that the Force doesn't have much to do with us, but it could also be said that privateers and ship captains from earlier times (the historical template I believe our class to be based upon) were very superstitious, and had long-standing traditions of odd beliefs and social rules for life aboard and abroad. That line of reasoning could go both ways.
Call me crazy if you must, but I think the randomness of slices is what keepsslicing balanced. Force Sensitivity or not, ifa Master Smuggler can promise you a 35% damage slice things could get out of hand quickly. I think the Devs knew this from the begining, hence why tools and experimentation aren't in slicing now.
The last thing we need is slicing experimentation or tool effectiveness to be thrown into the mix as far as I'm concerned. I didn't pick up smuggler to be a crafter thatrequires me tohave the best materialsand toolsfor me to get any buisness. Unless someone can prove to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that it would help us more than hurt us, I'm against the idea of making slices not random... save for possibly picking a slice, i stress possibly.
Or at least I'd like to have better odds at a chosen category.
Your post has caused me to think actually that taking some randomness away from the class would make it less... smugglerish. Now if only we could widen the effects so that you had moments of divine inspiration, and moments of terrible fate. Like imagine that if 1 out of 10 /lastditch shots had a chance to do something really fantastic; either hit for an insane amount of damage, bypassing armor, and surely nailing your opponent, or having your gun jam, blow up, or otherwise stop working right, leaving you open to snag a tremendous sucker punch and die.
Ok, maybe it needs to be a little more controlled.
