Thread: Smuggler UI?

I was thinking that maybe Smugglers should be able to slice a weapon or armor without the need to trade said weapon or armor. It'd be like the Image Design interface: the smuggler slices the item and the results are shown, plus, the smuggler can put in the price for the slicing.

I've mentioned this in several threads, but seems it got no notice.

Maybe since you've started a completely new thread on this subject, someone will comment...

This will clear up numerous problems like having to hold items hostage because someone doesn't want to pay, the possibility of bad smugglers stealing stuff, and dealing with trade window issues.

The problem for me is I've yet to try out this new UI to get a good feeling for it.

What I would get a kick out of is if we could both see the experimentation lines while we sliced for them.

"Yes, I want you to try 3 boxes in speed..." *Smuggler puts in three boxes, which the client sees, clicks on the Experiment button* "Cool! You got an awesome success! Lets go for some in damage now!"

allows them to interact with us, and get a better understanding of how the system works. Ehhh just thinking out loud.

Now THAT would be most excellent. No more "you ruined my weapon" crap. You can just look at the guy and calmly respond, "no, i did what you told me to. YOU ruined your weapon. 10k please."

One problem is it would effectively completely remove the randomness of slicing. If a slice isn't finalized until both hit accept, then you could just cancel until a 30+% damage slice is obtained, then accept it. Of if a slice is applied immediately, and the person refuses to pay, you're kind of screwed as far as payment. You have no recourse to get paid like you could if you put the item on the Bazaar for the price of the slice.

I really like Caylin's "experimentation" idea, but I think the special UI window is asking for grief.

That is the difficult part... issues with the client not liking the outcome or the potiential for a fail changing the process, slicing multiple items for one customer in a session, the customer realziing after the fac tthat they don't hav ethe cash on them and want to hit the bank or even realizing after you're ready to start that you're out a tool and have to quickly get out your storage droid or craft another tool.

The only way I see this working is that if there is a certain level of lock in to payment or payment scheme up front before the slice, but doing so would take out ome of the flexibility in how we usually work, and it would still be prone to crashing/LD issues or similar ways to exploit the situation.

It would be a feat to come up with a UI that does all of this well enough that I just don't bypass it and make my customers trade me the gear anyways, but if done right it would surely rock.

DRWolfe, just so that you know, I did include this idea in my Slicing section of the focus group doc. You should be able to see it tomorrow sometime, as soon as Geevo is done pulling everyones indivdual efforts together into a cohesive doc.

I also included the simple idea of changing the text colors to indicate the color of the wire.

I myself do like the idea of ripping off the ID interface, with maybe a few tweaks to make it our own.

This Smuggler UI is an interesting idea and one that with mroe thought could be quite viable.

One possible drawback though is that it would take 'that' much longer to slice stuff for our customers. I slice a crazy amount of items each and every day... almost to a point where AUK/WUK vendors can't keep up with the demand I have for those tools! I don't know about most of you guys but I like being able to dish out any random slice, give out the results and go on to the next piece. Having the customer fiddle around with the process and drag things out would really stretch out the amount of time it takes to slice things. It can get especially bad when you have lots of sets of armour to slice.

I hate 11% effectiveness slices at Master level as much as any other smuggler but leaving things random is what i'd like. Besides, you've got to love customers who keep buying new sets for you to slice just because the results were bad on the previous slices - more business for us

As for the UI, what I would like most of all is if we could finally get rid of the goddamned color palette opening up every time we try to slice a piece of armour. It is so friggin' irritating! Maybe they can glitz up the slicing box but other than that, leave slicing the way it is.

Thunderheart said in another post that the whole ui team is working on jtl and currently our revamp is suppose to land before jtl which means they won't be giving us any ui changes at all even if ya beg, plead, and give em a 35% damage slice. But maybe in a year from now or so when they decide to touch smuggler again it might be an option. (sarcasm and the pains of waiting in line with 30+ professions)
