Hello everyone. The purpose of this post is to introduce to you people an idea i have been having for a while now. I always thought they did the Slicer wrong from the begging of SWG as being part of smuggler and only being able to pick locks and enhance items.

The Slicer in StarWars has always seemed to me, a hacker. Now i agree with the hacking of items to make them better, but there is so much more we could do, if we only had an elite prof of Slicer that at least goes off of the smuggler prof.

The slicer profession should be able to do many things, such as:

-jam enemy radars (great for pvp and adds loads of tactics to any battle situation).

-Hack into peoples conversations (we all use datapads to talk, right? This would also add tactics to pvp, GCW, and combat, if you could figure out at least some of enemies' messages...albiet scrambled if not a completely successful hack, etc...)

-possibly get some spy type skills, to avoid being seen by authority figures..(this could include a stealth and/or sneak mode so you can decrease the agro range of mobs)

-open up a possibility of cash with slicer missions (trying to get certain info from jhacking conversations w/o getting caught, etc)

-increase the ability to slice mission terms for altered cash

-ability to steal/disable enemy vehicles ( would be helpful for battlefields where people leave vehicles lying around)

-ability to convert enemy bases to your side (like hackers in Planetside)-thus if you wiped out the base, your team could start inhabiting it

Well, thats most of what I have been thining of atm. Any other suggestions/info of what you think slicers should have are welcome. This profession would be mostly support, and would help the GCW in many ways, as stated above. It would help groups out, much like squad leader, and I believe it would make a really fun class to roleplay and support the GCW with..as you would be sneaky and elusive, and a slicer!

Thats it..any info on this idea would be greatly appreciated..(and I'm not sure if this was suggested before..but it was a good idea if it was)

Check out some of the sticky posts above...

We've had lots of ideas like this before... now it's up to the DEVS to provide us with our "smuggler" profession.

There's soooooo many good ideas up above that it hurts. Someday we'll get our time to shine.

Me?? I drink beer and smile.

What does the rest of the smuggler community think about this??

Well we CAN hack into computer terminals. Take a trip to the Geonosian labs or the Corellian Corvette and you'll see.

The things you mention though (spy-slice conversations etc.) are quite bizarre and paranoia-making to say the least.

Actually, as a "hacker" I'd like to allow the people I'm grouped with to join me through the doors I just sliced. This has happened in the Geonosian lab - my friends didn't get the code for the doors, so I sliced it open and entered. But my friends were stuck on the outside - which is quite weird when you think about it.

Let my friends benefit from having me in their group

I think with JTL smugglers should be able to steal space ships Maybe make a system where the person you robbed can put a bounty on your head and once you get caught (if you get caught mind you) you have to pay what the ship is worth. May be a little trouble deciding the worth, maybe fixing the trade system so you can price each individual item? Well, lol, i guess there would also have to be a fix on how you launch ships, maybe have a space station you get shuttled to that is just a giant parking garage? Anyway, just trying to add ideas for content that we all love.

All valid ideas, thanks for your input.

About the hacking of conversations...this would mainly serve as a tactical skill, and maybe you should only be able to get partial conversations..or somehow figure out enemies' strategies.

Point being that in RL, secure comm is a big deal..especially in the military..you don't want your enemy to know your plans, missions, and tactics, etc.

-so we could also carry securecomlinks perhaps...and slicing those would prove more difficult..

-Also, you could limit the hacks on each comlink to be limited for like once in 20 mins or something, so you can't try and repeatedly hack a person and learn about their whole life, ie., make them paranoid.

-Perhaps another skill you could add to slicers is the ability to hack knowledge about opponents..ie, give you their template summed up in what skills they have..or what profs they have. This would be like seeing what training degrees they have on record...this would also help tactically and strategically.

-Slicers should be good at obtaining knowledge, and cracking stuff (they did well so far with slicing of doors and containers and alterting weapons), but there is so much more potential in slicer..it should be made a new prof. Hackers exist to find information..and in SWG these slicers could change things for the better by adding new content into GCW and battles.

-Of course slicers should be able to alter ships when they come out, no doubt about that (or at least ship components).

-Also, as another reason for slicers, you could prevent the hacking of information of your party..ie. defensive hacking (hacker battles), where the slicers battle eachother for information and try to find a weakness in the other teams defenses..or counter hack the other slicer.

What does everyone else think?? should they create slicer as their own prof??

Info gladly taken..

Possibly, but see my next entry...

Ventrillo, and other voice-chat software would become the norm, not the exception as no one would want this to happen. I also have a feeling that this would only help certain individuals in stalking....

This might be nice, as it's hard to tell just by looking at bio's what they have at the time you are checking.

No thanks on the new prof...*has flashbacks of netrunners from CP2020*

I 100% agree

*shudders at flashbacks again*

I like the ideas of adding to slicing, but I'm not sure if espionage is the right way to go. Smugglers weren't generally (if at all, please correct me if I'm wrong) spies, but...well...smugglers. I do think that there needs to be more to the slicing line, but there needs to be more to the profession as well. I really dislike the whole hacker wars idea, but that is just due to too much Cyberpunk rpg time sitting around while the hacker in the group took 2 hours to do what only is supposed to take 10 minutes in real time...yuk. I think they could make a "Hacking" profession, but I seriously doubt they will, given there current track record of fixing this profession. Good ideas tho.
