You know you're an old Smuggler when you can remember having to use FANs because nobody sold Clamps at the time.

^ ^ That'll be me then! I used to craft loads of 'em manuallyto grind the Slicing tree because I didn't have enough money for factories etc. I still have nightmares

I'm a master smuggler and I just realized I have no idea what it is or what it does. Thanks.

It works like a Molecular clamp, but it only has a 75% chance of telling the correct wire.

A Flow Analyzer Node, or FAN, is alot like a Clamp, its attached to the weapon to increase your success in slicing. However, a FAN is unlike a Clamp in the fact that it does not tell you which wire is the correct one to cut. It tells you which wire has a 75% chance of being the correct one to cut. Mostly, the older Smugglers out there are the only ones who have delt with them.

FAN - 75% chance of being right
Clamp - 100% chance
so as you can tell, no one likes FANs

You know you're an older one, when you used a chance cube to pick the right wire, 'cause you couldn't find anyone who could craft FANs yet...
