Alright maybe this is not a new idea but I'm still fairly new and I haven't seen it yet so here goes.
Now this goes under the assumption that most of you have read books from EU. Now going off that we have an entire branch called 'Slicing'. What do Slicers do in EU ? Well from what I can tell they are almost like hackers, slicing into computers to get information they want slicing weapons armor terminals and doing upgrades to ships and things of that nature.
Here comes the new twist part... slicing ships components.
I don't have JTL yet so this will not be as accurate as it could be. But what if a smuggler could start to slice ships' components and increase the effectiveness or decrease the energy drain that a component has on your reactor ? Look at the most famous Smuggler, Han. He was always messing around with that hunk of junk and doing things to it in order to increase what it could.
Also what about corrupted data pads ? A slicer could see about fixing those and getting whatever information was in it before it got fragged. These are just some thoughts I had tonight while surfing the forums during work.

It'll never happen...as the Devs have already said that ship components are "balanced"...any slicing of those components would throw the balance off...
Trust me when I say this has been debated ad nauseum...

Heh...I've often thought about twisting the quote in my sig to read:
"Everything the Devs tell us is a lie. They just don't care enough to tell us the truth."

I like this idea - not sure if it was mentioned before, the ship slicing thing has been, but I've not seen this idea before.
I think it would be cool to be able to work a dead data pad to find the info on it - the pads can have incriminating evidence (or a shopping list) and then you have to figure out which faction would want it.
Hmmmmm
Cheers

Here comes the new twist part... slicing ships components.
Not being able to do this was my biggest disappointment in JTL.

Not me...
I can only imagine...
Smuggler: "10% increase in durability."
Random guy: "W-T-F?!? I TOLD YOU I WANTED A MASS REDUCTION! YOU SUCK!"

Supposedly, we were also going to be allowed to slice vehicles.
.....anyone see THAT yet? Me either. :/
I was really hoping for ship slicing, too. Seriously. You going to try and tell me Han modified the Falcon legally?? O_O I don't think so...

The speederbike slicewas part of our almost ill fated revamp. About March they produced what our revamp was gonna look like and Smugglers cried out in 100% unity to have it postponed. I guess our current situation IS a dirrect result of us asking for it to be delayed. But in retrospect, I would have still waited. Because that revamp truely suckED!

I agree. The thing to remember is that that revamp plan only allowed us to slice vehicles for durability. Speed or maneuverability might've been exciting, but durability? I would hardly notice 20% or 30% extra. The publish 9 revamp plan had nothing that interested me at all.

If I read the devspeak correctly then the data pads are going to be - I think - re-engineered or somehow a couple or a few of them are going to be used to create one workingand to containwhat the devs think is loot.
I can';t remember if this in in the loot forum or the JTL forum
