I dropped this in another forum, but thought I'd share with the Smuggler community that has been so important to me in this game...
Friends all,
Over the past few weeks I haven't been on much. I've been enjoying WoW, trying MxO and thinking about if I should cancel my account for SWG. I've put alot of thought into this matter, more than I would think possible for a game, but nonetheless, a game that I, as you all, are very, very passionate about.
I love Star Wars. It's the one thing I 'Geek out' on. My fiance has come to understand this unnatural love for George Lucas and his space opera...and in some shape or form, Star wars has been with me since I saw ANH when I was only three years old in a traditional movie theater...waitting in line with my parents to see this new and wonderful movie.
I bought this game the first month it came out, and have played it ever since. I have put time and energy into these fantastic characters that exist only in my mind and in this electric world. It is the closest I can come to experiencing the saga, and it is the closest I will probably come to crafting my own epic, with my friends and our neverending story. I have played more hours than I could ever calculate, and have experienced the highs and lows of this game. From the days of chitin armor, walking everywhere, the Smuggler nerf, the CH wars, the intial parking lot when vehicles went live, and the downward spiral this game sank into when the Hologrinding phase set in, and jedis became more common than anyone would ever care, I've been along for the ride.
We are so very passionate about this game, because the Story means so much to us, and has been such an amazing part of our lives. We reach out to experience that story in our own way, by playing this game. We hope for so much, yet time and time again our hopes seem to fall on deaf ears, and the efforts by SOE falls so remarkably short. We've gotten the shaft over and over again so much that we have become predesposed to naysaying and negative shouting matches of anger towards these devs and their however well intentioned nightmares they inflict upon us.
We want Star Wars, we want the saga we saw on the big screen in 1977, 1980, and 1983. Somehow we hope and pray for this, and what we have gotten is some sort of weird hybrid that holds no ryhme or reason to the thought known as canon and what it means in a galaxy far, far away.
No, it's not the Star Wars I know, but somehow, inbetween, it's something mixed and wonderous, and has the potential to be just as good.
It's a canvas on which myself and my friends, guildies, and even enemies can craft our own saga, we've been given the tools, we just need to implement them.
Everything we could ever want is there...and in our own little corners of the galaxy, we can have our way. This game has to cater to more than just the Star Wars fan, and it also has to cater to the casual fan and the new, young Star Wars fan who's grown up on TPM, and doesn't really understand it when the old folks talk about a movie long ago, that had models, cel shading, muppets, and that the little green jedi was controled by someone named Frank Oz...whoever that is.
There are many players, and many different styles, and SOE has to cater to them all...if you don't want to pay attnetion to Jedi..don't...go off with RP'ers or players who have the same beliefs and make your own little world...ignore...ignore...ignore...
I myself was like the former...angry at all the inconsistencies and bugs, lack of content, and just general maladjustment at SOE and this b@stard they had created...but I can't be that angry anymore. There are other things in life I need to worry about, and when I play, I want to enjoy my time, not stress out over that stupid Jedi in the corner, or the L33t dood talking stupid...why do I let these people bother me, why do I give them that power? Screw it, /addignore...see ya, moron.
The truth is that this is a game, and to the folks at LucasArts, and possibly to the great one himself, it's the same thing. Lucas has said that the only ting that is Canon is the movies, everything else is open to discussion, and interpretation by the artist, but when all is said and done, it has no bearing on him and the films. That's how he sees it, and this game most likely. It's a mix...it's everything rolled into one...it's something fun for people to play. George is not going to get on his white lanspeeder and race in and save the day. This game is most likely a non-issue to him, delegated to the game gurus to get it going and see what happens. The intergrity of Star Wars? Licensing has put the film on every considerable product known to man, I don't think they're too concerned with continuity right now when the first PG-13 rated SW is going to the cineplaex, and could be the best of the series.
There are so many more things in this life I could be cynical and bitter about, I'm not going to let something that has the ability to give me so much joy be one of them. So I'm done with it, done with the bitching.
To those of you who are leaving, good luck in where-ever you may turn up; for those of you who stay, let's strap on the armor, go harass some rebels, and start our own saga.
We can start our own EP IV. and make our own epics. The canvas is there, we just need to step up and put some work down.
I'm tired of being bitter, and I just want to have some fun.
I'm going to get my armor, hunt up some friends and guildies, ready my weapon and go find me a wookie to subjugate on the world of Kashyyk...
Everyone is welcome to join me.

I've been having a blast lately! Umm...but not in SWG, sorry.
I got as far as taking my Krayt to Wookie World but couldn't resist going back to GW.
Maybe this weekend I'll explore some on Wookie World and find one of them fancy Martian Ray Guns!
