Thread: Jedi Revamp...Smuggler Revamp.

So it looks like they put alot of good work into the upcoming Jedi Revamp.

Do you think they'll put the same amount of work into the Smuggler Revamp?

I personally am torn.

On one hand, they have this Jedi Revamp that they've on text, done a good job with the details.

On the other hand, it's been almost a year, and it will be OVER a year since Smuggler has been in this game. Yet we've never had a major bug fix to our profession since retail release. We've had nerfs. But never an all out bug-fix that FIXED things (and not made them worse). We've been tossed promises left and right, but seen no results. Sure, Thunderhearts thread is a step in the right direction. But are they really taking in all of our suggestions, or just reading, responding, and are just going to go with their plan and no input from the community? If the actions of most developers who make lots of money no matter what they do is the norm, it will be doubtful, like other developers, that they listen to the community. I know people in the game design world, and from what they've told me, Community Input is moot when it comes to Developer Desires.

So...don't get your hopes up too high.

I"ve said it before and I'll say it again.

If they couldn't do it in Publish 9 for internal resource issues and technical problems I completley fail to see how they can do it in Publish 11 when they're dealing with oodles of problems after Jedi revamp and space expansion. And of course the technical issues that prevented them from doing it now aren't going to magically disappear.

Smuggler, Smuggler, Smuggler Pie, Why are there Jedi, I don't know why.
Ask me a riddle and I reply: "Smuggler, Smuggler, Smuggler Pie."

Don't expect to get as much attention as the Jedi.

-Jedi are key, well known proffession in Star Wars

-Jedi are infamous powergamers and whiners

-Jedi get more attention from not just themselves, but most people playing keep an eye on them, and even people who don't have the game, while no one other than a smuggler could care less about one.

Well that's just it isn't it? If the Devs get this right, they can then go and boast about how great the game is, having such well represented iconic professions such as Jedi, Smuggler, andBountyHunters. Making the smuggler profession like we see in the movies will increase their current number of iconic Star Wars professions (that they'll admit to in public) by 50%!

It's in the Dev's interests to make Smuggler as best they can in order to sell the game to more people. Let's hope they realise this too

If the Hologrind was such a bork (which I agree it is), then why didn't they just turn off the ability to become FS until they fixed it... Then they could have pushed back the Jedi Revamp until they could deal with it properly, which by the way would have been after correcting the issues that 98% of thecurrent paying customer-basehave to deal with, instead of spending 2 publishes on the other 2% who also happen to have 'normal' characters as well. If anything the wait for the smuggler revamp has made me want to holo-grind even more so I can get a"revamped" character and be part of the "elite" high-priority development crowd who has his problems fixed before he even realizes they exist.

My problem is in their choice of priorities....

As long as the wait is worth it, I don't mind.

  • 33 non-Jedi professions.

  • 1 Jedi profession.

  • Jedi presence in the universe is rare (let's say 1%).

  • 9publishes done oron tap (counting upcoming publish).

  • 1 publish dedicated to Jedi.

  • Arguably 6 of 33 non-Jedi professions - Architect (Player Cities), Artisan (Vehicles), Chef, Creature Handler, Image Designer, and Politician (new prof) -had major attention in a publish.

  • 1% of players playing a single profession (Jedi) enjoy a major revamp.

  • 99% of players, each who arguably play more than one profession, have about an 18% chance that a given profession they play was revamped.

In other words, 1% of the players get 11% of the results of a major publish; 99% of the players get the short end of the stick: those who play twoprofessions have a 2 in3 chance that if one of their professions started broken, it is still broken; those who play three professions have about a 50/50 chance of the same.

Do Jedi warrant a little more attention? Yes. But not this much....

This makes me wonder if devs ever do the maff...

Don't get your hopes up?

Yeah, that's a great attitude...

Let's look at what they've done now which they haven't done before

  • Actually scheduled a set date for the revamp.

  • Gave us their vision of the profession

  • Gave us a template for a revamp doc

  • Have been communicating with the community on a more than monthly basis.

Enough with the pessimism! We actually have an opertunity here and all that's getting any effort is pessimistic **edit**! If the revamp doesn't happen, then get pessimistic, quit the **edit**ing game, whine, **edit**, moan but not now! Not when what smugglers have been fighting for since release is finally on the schedule!

That's all I have to say in this useless thread.

Perhaps I should be more free with my usage of the quote button. My post was meant for the originator of this thread and any other person who decides to start another "we won't get anything" thread. The smuggler community has finally gotten the opportunity to help make this profession one with purpose. In fact, the request for input as well as everything we wanted to go along with it has been shoved in our faces. Yet, I keep seeing page one half filled with pessimistic crap like the original post. It's like someone putting a bowl of dog food in front of a hungry dog and the dog refusing to eat. The document would be done already if all the effort spent writing these uselessly negative posts were put into the revamp. That's why I'm my post have been extraordinarily harsh(for me)these past few days.I want to see smuggler be all it can be but that won't happen with half the community sitting on their asses complaining about getting nothing when the food is right in front of them. One star me all you like. I won't stop pointing out the obvious until people start doing something.

In the meantime, you're bumping a thread you want to go away.

Listen, if the Dev's aren't smart enough by now to discern sour grapes from real concerns, then we're sunk. I rant about this game all the time. I am honestly pleased with the last few patches, and I think they're finally pointed in the right direction.

I'm also dead certain that they should have been pointed in this direction about 6 months before the game hit the shelf. So yes, I'm cynical, and yes, I reserve judgement. So long as I stay within the forum guidelines, I reserve my right ot comment as I see fit. And yes, we're 'on the schedule' now, but we were 'on the schedule' a month ago, and we got pushed back. There is no dearth of precedent for cynicism here; the fact that the game is getting good also highlights where it's been; I don't blame anyone for remembering.

If people want to be jaded and bitter about it, let them. Even the jaded and bitter might have useful comment to contribute. Limiting your intake of data irrevocably narrows your decision making process.

Aside from a few previous (and edited) posts, I'm not pessimistic. I have great hopes that the devs will add much fun to the smuggler profession come september. I will however state my opinion regarding their priorities. Its mine, and I'm entitled to have it. Though your entitled to ignore or disagree, and I'll respect that as well.

I love this game. I just talked my wife into playing... I have high hopes it will all turn out well, and will keep me entertained for at least a few years..

I do have doubts about the Smuggler Revamp's design by commitee..... Things like this need a singular vision by a designer in order bring focus to our profession. Currently I feelsmugglers suffer from the 'designby comittee' syndrome, and we ARE simply a hodge podge of slightly related skills and abilities, and I'd like us to get away from that.

The Smuggler Profession needs focus. We're underworld characters who transport and deal in illegal goods. Our reputations can make or break us. Our underhanded and often creativetactics save our skin when things get too hot. These are what we are. In order to fit into that stereotype, we need there to be laws... how can we break em if they don't exist. There needs to be a market for illegal goods. Whats the use of moving or selling something illegal, if no one wants it. How can our reputation in certain circles provide any benefit or hinderence if we're unable to change it in a meaningful way.

I've always felt Smuggler was a last minute add, and was really intended to be a "space-profession." Now that we have some info on the space expansion, and smugglers don't seem to be a key part of it, our only hope is the revamp. Let's hope someone at SOE has enough interest in the Smuggling aspect of Star Wars to follow through with the original vision and make it as interesting and fun to play as it is to watch on the big screen.
