Thread: Dropping Smuggler Leaving the game (a constructive post)

I'm just curious.....

Since activly reading/posting onthese SWG boards since last year, I've seen some strong and weak community members get fed up. They either drop Smuggler for the lack of love, or quit the game completly.

I'm to that point as well.

For over a year now weve been waiting for our much needed revamp, and you know how much of it has actually happened.

So I tried to focus on the other aspects of the game. Started an alt account (why?, and drop master Smuggler?!?1 - your crazy :smileyhappy and became a crafter. But this hasn't worked as well.

Being a HUGE STAR WARS fan in general, it hurts even more to see the direction the game is heading. Jedi are running the show, the lack of "Love" to the BH's to get the job done (killing these jedi) is just as bad. Kyrat Dragons can be solo'd, as well as faction turrets.

I now read more and more posts from old school peeps who are leaving for the same reason as I am considering.

Just wondering what aspects you feel are "Game Breaking" and why.

Aw, man. We'd be really sorry to see you go.

As for game-breaking stuff, everything pretty much needs some work, but it all really depends upon your point of view.

Bugs, broken professions, etc are all over the place, but I believe things will be fixed, it just takes time. Having much of the Dev team over on JTL doesn't help, but I do sort of agree that JTL "completes" the game and the Star Wars experience, so the quicker they get it out, the better. Not only will that "complete" the game, but it will free up the Dev resources needed for the rest of the game. At that point, I believe we will see better and quicker fixes to all our woes.

As for Jedi, they belong in Star Wars, just not during this time period (according to Star Wars canon). But a Star Wars game without Jedi is not truely Star Wars, so we have to accept them. We also have to accept that there could be a lot of them, because we all pay the same amount to play, so we all must be given the same opportunities, therefore can all be Jedi. This may be bad for continuity, but it must be so. There is not much chance of an MMORPG to follow a book, movie, etc exactly because the characters must have some effect on things, otherwise what's the use.

I see SWG as an "alternate" Star Wars, which it must be as an MMORPG. Like the box says, this game is "based on the Star Wars universe", and is "your saga", not the sagas already told.

You know, with my Smuggler, I've done just about everything. Maxed my template, got all of the POI badges, Rebel, Jabba, and Nym Themeparks, the full Hero quest, both Warren badges, several of the non-badge quests that give cool stuff, even visited the Geo Caves once. There seemed nothing left for me to do with him (the Corvette seems a bit high-end for me, though I'd love to see it, and same for the DWB).

I started playing a character on another server I had created back when I started, but never played, who was a Zabrak using rifles and pikes, just for variety. I left that one and created yet another that was a Wookiee BE/CH for more variety. I played both of those for a little while, they gave me a break, and some new professions to work on and try out. Before long, I began to miss my Smuggler, so I began playing him some more, just trying to get some interesting stuff, like the loot kit things or crystals.

Recently, I had a hard drive failure and problems with my ISP that made it so I couldn't play as much. I found that not being able to play didn't bother me as much as it would have earlier in my SWG career. Since then, however, everything's been fixed up and I'm back in playing my Smuggler as much as before. Why? Not sure. I think it's because i have a new outlook. Play the game. Do whatever it is in the game that you enjoy. If you absolutely cannot find anything left in the game you enjoy, then take a break. It'll be new again when you come back.

Now, I have the FS quests to look forward to so I can create my second character, which is another old paper RPG character I have planned. Also JTL, who knows what else after that. I'll be around for awhile. Hope you will be, too.

I disagree with youhere, DRWolfe. Over half of the pistoleer specials don't work, to include those in the master box, and yet there has been no progress or evident desireof fixing any of them. I don't think that the release of JTL will improve anything, as the 'extra' devs will just be diverted to the unnamed project at SOE-Austin. I don't know if it's pressure to release or just lack of pride by the devs/programmers, but when the majority of professions are broken and yet to be touched 14 months after release, I find it hard to believe that anything will get better.

You know, I agree with you Sapperlight, to an extent. I think what has happened (after taking a lot of time to step away from the boards and think about things) is that the "suits" have been putting a lot of pressure on the Developers to get JTL released.

I could be very wrong, but all MMORPGs I have seen have taken at least a year to 18 months to really get to a point where the game is where it should have been at launch. If you look back at launch (or, even better if you were with us BETA 2) then we have made some good progress in a lot of key areas, just not the ones that really should have been worked on first.

JWing, I hate to see anyone leave (well, any fellow Smugglers anyway), so if you do just remember that you will also be missed.

To answer your question, though, is quite simple. There are two game breaking elements at the moment:
(1) Combat - completely unbalanced
(2) Jedi - completely unchecked

No longer holding out hope, SWG will never be the game we fought so hard for, that we believed so much in. Farewell friends.
