Although its still early in the beta, I can say that soloing isn't quite dead. Grouping does afford better xp overall, and its always nice to have someone to talk with. I would recommend some medic for those grinding at the lower levels but this is not a new thing. Get to know your color cons...currently they are: Blue=easy to kill, White=on par with you, Yellow=its risky, Orange=you stand a real good chance of getting the incap, and Red and Purple=it will eat your frackin face!I don't know what the lvl of red, and purple are but I am guessing its for groups.
Your average critters are now sporting orange, red, or purple (depending on your skill level). Nuna's are tough at the novice stage...purple tough..if that gives you any idea. The devs did say they will be tweaking the skill level and xp later on in the beta to balance the fun factor. Most NPC's vs. the novice fighter will con a few levels higher than you. Jawas conned purple for me at marksman 0-0-1-0, which prolly means a group at this level would be needed to kill it. Again, con scales with your level.
It took me a lot longer to solo than those members of Team Low Blow who were grouped, but it can be done. Like I said its really too early to say whether or not soloing is in fact dead. It seems to me though, SOE is going to push a lot of players into grouping. Also of notice is the amount added to your health as you gain skill boxes, and the conning of other players to myself. Thought that was a neat thing.
Overall I am enjoying the changes, the UI is a bit different to get used to but a few minutes playing time and its like a old hat.

the way i see it, their making it like other MMOGs, or trying to. You can still go out and solo, but its for sport, not for grinding. You won't advance as fast XP wise, but thats the price you pay to solo..,
inmanyMMOGs, you solo something and its counter productive time vs XP wise, but its for bragging rights or your farming for a loot.
As of now, pre-CU, its just stupid- soloing is more productive and prefered than groups. I'm glad the devs arefinally addressing this.

Simply look at you level numbers. Your level is left of you name under your icon. When a creature/NPC is targeted their level is in the upper right corner in the colored circle. You can fairly do stuff 2 levels above you but 3 and above is almost assured of an incap and probably death.
Level 1 creatures give 30 xp
Level 2 is 40 xp
Level 3 is 45 xp
Level 4 is 62 xp
Level 5 is 85 xp
I have killed anything above that

Either way, if they up the xp, it'll go up for both solo and group. Grouping might become a little less productive, but it'll still be better than solo'ing. I think everyone is just forgetting just how difficult it was starting as a newb with nothing but a cdef pistol. Granted, some of the mobs need reworking probably, or more level 1-4 mobs need to spawn, but they aren't all that much tougher than I remember from my novice marksman days.
What's going to be interesting is when they push this live, and we'll have people respeccing to master x, but they'll have no idea how to actually shoot anymore. I can just imagine someone trailing a mutant womp rat into town screaming "Why am I not shooting it?!?!?!" at least once.

and to comment ont he original thread, I don't see soloing being dead at all. A Smuggler/Damage prof combo with the right sense of timing and tactics will be able to solo anything that can in fact be soloed.

Well, the thing to remember, is that with all the new crowd control options being put in, I assume they'll put in a system for diminishing returns (reduced effects for the second application of a state, even further reduced for the third). At the very least, they'll probably put in timers, which would be the super lazy way out. Point is, the first time you startle that rancor, or panic shot him, the second time won't be as effective, so without more damage coming, you probably won't be able to solo him. But, I agree, we will probably be able to solo just as or more effectively than any other class out there, except maybe a TKA with a class allowing him to wear assault armor without as many penalties.

xp might be a touch low, but really, in three days now I'll have pistols 4, probly around 3-5 more I'll have unarmed 4, another 5 days or so for novice smuggler... at which point I'll be more powerful, and getting more XP, I don't see it taking more than a month or two to grind through profs. I don't see it being all that slow.
