Alright, this is a bit of an unusal question, and the fact is..I have no idea were to put it! So, my friends, it's going into two places, here and Musician....and you're about to see why:
So, I was fumbling along the other day, finally getting enough grit to become a master Musician. I'd been working on this for sometime so I could make it into a clan that a friend of mine was in. In all good honoesty, I really like the job, but I do admit that it's a bit lacking in the money making department. I like to entertain, it's neat watching flourishes, listening to music happen, but I'm also a man of action. My original plan was, infact, Musician/Pistoleer. Well, today I became a guild member and I was pretty happy. I've met some of the people and such, and they all seem generally fun to be with. But earlier I had gotten to thinking, "What am I going to do for cash? Valcyn isn't too big on population, or so it says, and I've only had one paying entertainer gig before (which hauled me a lot of cash, I must say. They were generous and I thank them)." I think I'm like most people. I want a house on a planet, namely tatooine. There's almost no reason for it if I was an entertainer, but hey, it'd be nice to go back to a swanky pad and hang out with a few people. But, there goes the moths flying out of my pocket; I was dumb founded at how much some houses cost. The idea was that I was going to split a house with my good budy, but medium and large cost quitea bit of pocket change. Anyway, back to today's adventure: I found there was a Master Smuggler in my guild! I've always been Very interested in the smuggling profession besides, and so I figured I'd ask him a few questions. Upon getting to know about it, it got me thinking: I could make some credits with this profession if I really put my mind to it. Problem is, I like musician too! So, I decided to download a calculator (one that I suggest to all of you. It's really handy. www.oasisparadise.com) and figure out what I could do. Needless to say, if I wanted to keep my musician (Master it, heck, even not master it) I would never be able to get the full benefits of smuggler, the money making, or a helping fighting class (Pistoleer or Teras Kasi). Really, I'm simply looking for input and ideas on what I should pick. I know most of you will say "Well, do what you like to do." But as I expressed, I really like to do both, but wouldn't be able to effectively. So I urge and beg you to please put your thoughts down. Think of it as a good debate on why being this or that would be a good idea. Thank you so very much for your time.

well on the cash side, i make about 500k every night slicing in coronet/theed...when i choose to come out and shout slicer slicing....i'm also a master pistoleer....its good enough for medium/high PvE....but not the best for hard core enemies....i'm also a master TK...now this i use fo rthe hard core PvE....regardless nothing i have is great for PvP..unless i get close enough w/ TK...but anywyas...you can make LOTS of cash as a smuggler...either by slicing or by selling Faction POints....or a combo of the two...musician is fun too...and guild members respect the musician who buffs their mind....bottom line...u'll be a very respected person as musician/smuggler...I think if it's what you like then go for it! It's great someone isn't conforming to a stupid template to be like the rest! /applaud

valcyn hay? You rebel or imperial cuase if your rebel scum I ain't helping you
Valcyn can be slow on slicing business to make loads of money for a smuggler though most of valcyn tip well enough. I don't ask for a set fee when I do bother to slice and most people tip me around 5k per slice. Imperial faction is up in the selling on valcyn at the minute and there quite a bit of money in it if you can become colonel and underworld IV. Also as a Musician you can set up a buff bot and again use and honor system where people tip you for you buffs while your AFK. Breezz is very successful in this as a master dancer master musician. I've heard of people buying a house and getting artisan buisness II (I think) and setting an access fee to get into there house for a buff. I think that a smuggler/musician would be a nice social profession as when youc an afford it you can get a cantina (you think houses are expensive
) Get friendly with a merchant and set up a shop there for customers to come and buy stuff, get mind buffed or sliced.
It's totaly up to you in the end but if you want to be involved in combat PvE or PvP then you are better getting an elite combat profession so you'll not be able to master Musican, Smuggler and a combat profession. TKM works very well with musican or smuggler. You might get by PvE with Master Musican, Master Smuggler and Pistol Techniques 4 in pistoleer. Get buffed, get a good set of ubese and a dx2 and you'll be good to go against 5-10k missions. If you still struggling in a couple of days give me a shout I might be able to cut you some sort of deal on my old medium tatoonie house which is good for tat, lok and god what's the other place, I've never been there
Though if your in a guild they are usealy very good at helping each other out on valcyn, don't big that annoys people just kind of drop hints
Again if your still struggling in a couple of days my in game name is in my sig give me a shout

Thank you so very very much, Kenney. Maybe I'll drop youa line and ask you a few questions. As of right now, me and a friend are venturing into a very profitable buisness, and i'm going to be putting my plans on hold. Expect a tell sometime, I'd love to chat with you. Thank you again for the great info!

hey correv, i was just about to goto sleep and i happened upon your post.. i do like coming up with templates so i've got some ideas for you.
you were thinking you couldnt do both effectively?
think again!
you can train Master Musician, with Master smuggler and go one of two routes.
would you prefer melee combat with this template? (kindof missingout on the dirty fighting tree skills, however you can still use them alright with pistols 4)
Master musician/master smuggler with Teras kasi Power techniques 4 (that is the speed/damage special move tree, which i would highly suggest)
Or, go with ranged.
Master Musician/Master Smuggler with Pistoleer techniques 4, which would give you some nice shots, and defense, but not much in the area of pistol speed, or accuracy since its in a diffirent tree :/
Please PM me what you end up doing, i'm interested in how it turns out!
take care, and i've got to hand it to ya, thats the most unique character build i've ever come across
Hope i was of some assistance.

Thanks for the input! I will most definately consider going those two paths! I've alos been given someother ideas opposed to that of what you've given me which are:
The Business Smuggler (One of my favorites other than yours):
Marksman with Pistol 4 and Ranged support 4
Artisan with buisness 4
Brawler with unarmed comabt 4
Master Smuggler
mater pistoleer (Or TKM!)
Merchant with Management 4
This was generally designed for the spice market, which I was thinking of going into. I have a friend who'd help me with it, and it's a good idea in my oppinion.
The TKM (or Pistoleer)-Master Smuggler Musician (Yours, if I'm correct):
Entertainer with music 4 and Music healing 4
Brawler with unarmed 4
Marksman with pistols 4
Master Musician
Master Smuggler
TKM or Pistoleer Techniques 4
That's another wonderful idea! It lets me keep my ent job.
So far, from what I've been hearing though, I may be dropping the musician class
I'm making the dead line for my choice tuesday (Also because of the patch/update) and I hope you all keep on posting to help a brother out!

I agree with RazieX's skill choiceif you decide to keep the musician skill.Since you are thinking about spices, let me tell you as a master smuggler on valcynthe spice business is pretty much dried up with the available chef foods and doctor buffs. I have a rather successful vendor setup in my guilds shop. However, I've had the same spices in there for over 2 months. Now I might be killing my own business as a guildmate has a chef vendor in the same shop, but I think that has little to do with it. I only have a few loyal spice customers who use spicein an emergency. If you are interested in making cash, I sell mostly tools, wuks and auks are very hard to keep in stock. You need to pick up weapon/armorsmith to make the auks and wuks yourself or you can find someone to make them/schematics for you. Of course you will need a factory to make the tools yet another cost for you.

hmm, Smuggling is an interesting prof, but, in my opinion, it's not as good for money making as it was before. Our spice tree became pretty much useless. You can still make good cash with slicing, sure. But you can make a lot more money by selling Faction Points. If you happen to belong to either Rebel or Impeiral faction. And you don't need Master Smuggler to sell FP, just underworld tree. So, my suggestion -- get Underworld and Dirty Fighting trees from Smuggler, and at least Marksmanship and Stances skill trees from Pistoleer -- Dirty Fighting without it is pretty much useless, since Smuggler prof doesn't have accuracy or speed modifeirs for your fighting skills. What it does have, is the 3 best Pistol Specials in game: Low Blow, Last Ditch and Feign Death.
If you want to have any fighitng chance in PvP, then master whole pistoleer prof.
If you are neutral, then the only way you'll make money with smuggler is to either pick up Slicing IV and sell Molecular Clamps by crates, or Picking up Master and slicing armor and weapons for other players. You can also slice at Slicing IV, but results wont be as good as they would be at Master, thus you probably wont make much dough.

I play on Valcyn as well, my template is a bit unusual to say the least. You see when my hubby dropped smuggler I decided to try it out..so I am now Master Smuggler, TK meditate 4, pistol tech 4, dancer knowledge 4, and novice medic. I couldn't imagine not having meditate and figured may as well have it since we need the unarmed line anyways, fanshot is well worth the points in pistols, and medic I can't see myself without as I used to be a doc. The dance line however is totally for fun and roleplay purposes. Sure I could be tougher with some more TK or pistols but that one line in dance allows me to hang out with my entertainer friends and do all but two dances.
It all depends on why you like musician as to what to keep, if you just want it to buff well then master is the way to go. But if it is just for fun one or two line will do just fine! Send me a tell sometime and let me know how you worked your template out, and good luck!
