I look at posts like this and realize it is a catch-22. When information was communicated in the past (before my time) everyone went wild. If that information missed the target or was removed then everyone was upset and the community felt the team was lying. This is why when I first started posting not only to this profession but to all, I stood firmly with if it is not 100% solid, I wouldn't post. Players were across the board on my posting that but for the most part many agreed that this would be a better route to take.
Our communication has been down lately with the following events hitting us from all sides: Celebration, Combat Upgrade, Rage of the Wookiee, E3 and Fan Fest. While these are not excuses the actuality of it all is releasing Combat Upgrade and RoW was like releasing two expansions at once. Something that no game has ever done.
We all learned some valuable lessons from doing two simultaneous releases and in the future our goal is to improve the communication flow so we don't run into that situation again.
Smugglers are mad and rightfully so...they have been promised loving for well over a year and instead of getting love the smuggler system get gutted and Jedi keep getting loving/fixes over smuggler and every other system in the game.
Jedi is an alpha class and people are REALLY getting tired of it...
I'm NOT a Jedi, have no plans on BEING a Jedi, and don't even think TWICE about any Jedi...
I am a SMUGGLER, I set out to BE a SMUGGLER, and that is what I did! Am I happy? No! But at least with CU I was given some special moves besides low-blow, last ditch, but my feign death was destroyed! But fine..
I do want people like you to know that although we have NEVER "received the "love" people feel they should have received; be aware that Jedi, Doctors, Entertainers, and in many cases the crafters were all screwed over after CU... Plus, there must have been a FIRE SALE over at the Imperial Bounty Hunter License Center because the number of "Masters" that have crapped out is insane!
It's as if SOE introduced the ability to change your species, and added Chiss, all you'll see are blue faces with red eyes! (hehe, yeah, I'll be one!) (HINT TIGGS!)
But at leat we were given ABILITIES! our SPICES (although I resent being a drug dealer to some degree) are useful again! and we have no faction cap (although the PRICES are insane)!
But don't say "Jedi is the Alpha Class" when it's clear to me that that "honor" goes to Bounty Hunters... The're abilities have been increased, as were their numbers, defenses, and damage, wherein Jedi saber damage is on par with a CDEF Pistol and we are ALL *** F O R C E D *** to group in order to gain any XP (now, I'm completed, so I have no use for XP and I'm NOT grinding FS! so this does not directly effect ME, but it's still a JOKE!)
It always seems to me that rather then people being constructive, like the original post "was" to a degree, everyone has to poin their figer on what "the other guy got"...
The only thing I'm P.O.'d about with SOE is - as an almost 2 year vet, I got a lizard that runs nice but not as fast as a guy that just started yesterday's BARC that will wind up being DELETED because the guy will NEVER accept the fact that he can't be a Jedi in a week! That, to me is more of a pain the a patch we've been waiting for and still THINK it's coming... Guys... It'll get here when it does... I'm not going to hold my breath!!
So get your nose away from the window, and stop looking at what your neighbor is doing, do your job, mind your business, and worry about your family, not someone elses!

It's times like this when I realize how LITTLE has changed since November '03...
Back then, I would've been excited by this...
Now...eh...*shrug*...
The real crux of the problem is, Day 1 of the Combat Upgrade Alphaforums, I TOLD the devs that the existing slicing system wasn't going to work in a Post-CU world. Did they listen? Nope...they basically told me that it wasn't a priority and to sit quietly in my corner. Now they're having to scramble to fix something that should have been part of the CU anyway...
Totally in agreement.
This thread means absolutely nothing unless results are produced. How many posts by all of the Devs do I have to site that say the profession is being reworked very soon, it's getting a brand new skill onion, slicing will be fixed soon, ect. It's all been done before with nothing to show for it. I've seen it for the past 2 years, why should I get excited and believe them this time?
Have the Devs put something on the table that I can see, experience, and evaluate. Then I'll get hopefull. Until then, this thread is just as useless as any other in the past. I hope they are working on this and it'll be out in 2-3 weeks...or even a month. But...well, go read EN's classic thread on our history and you tell me what you really think and why this situation is any different.
QFE, QFE and more QFE.
It's called TRACK RECORD and that's all you can base any kind of hope or prediction on.
Notice how Tiggs talked about SLICING but never mentioned ONE world about actual SMUGGLING. She "went out on a limb" to tell us SLICING would possibly be in Patch 19. She NEVER said where SMUGGLING would possibly show up. That is rather like the most important ommision IMO.

Thanks for the reply, Tiggs. My original post wasn't an explicit attempt to call you out, but if it worked, I won't complain. ![]()

Ok, look.. I understand Veela's anger about not being trusted. But that's not even what this is about. When the newest, freshest, most reliableand ONLYinformation that we have comes from a conversation between one of our regulars and a dev at a fanfest/E3/c3/etc., then something is seriously wrong with the lines of communication.Trust shouldn't even be an issue. Somewhere along the line there should be some kind of hard data about where we're at. TH/Tiggs should have communicated (either directly or through Wes) what the plan is by now. Relying on "a guy I talked to at E3"is a horrible way to predict the future. No matter how reliable the information is.
TH and Tiggs get paid to COMMUNICATE. Not ignore. Announcing a total lack of information doesn't cut it either. Somewhere in the figurative office in which they work, development is happening. They know that. They probably also know where it's being directed. We shouldn't have to put good folks like Veela under the pressure of sneaking around, figuring out what that direction is when people are being paid to know and communicate it.
Then again, with all the misdirection in the past couple of years from On High, it's not like we'd trust TH/Tiggs either.

I look at posts like this and realize it is a catch-22. When information was communicated in the past (before my time) everyone went wild. Yeah but them you just put yourself on another catch-22. That people don't know what's going on so they don't think they are being listen to. If they don't think they are being listen to then they don't add their 2 cents on what they would like to see in the game that they play. Their are alot of very bright and innovative people that would help alot with coming up with new ideas but they don't feel that any one listens to them. They started doing a little better before the CU like when they workign with the group invites from any were, but it ended with their was to many "problems" with it at the time. I don't see why so many things most be so secret. just like what's going on now with the new FRS. The only thing we get is the it's been passed to Lucas for approval. If we knew what it was alot of people who play within that system would love to put some of their ideas out to try to make it more enjoyable for the people in that system. If lucas doesn't approve it come back and say so and you are making so and so improvments to try to get their seal of approval.

The new slicing system is done.
Keep in mind, once a dev finishes a project like that, he checks it in. It goes into our version control software ... and we have little control over when it will get to you. Sometimes the developer isn't even 100% sure which publish his change will be in: the next one, or the one after that?
At that point, it's in for an upcoming publish with a lot of other stuff. Any of that "other stuff" could delay the publish. Or we could hear back from QA, "We don't have time to test that properly, so let's hold it for the next publish and give ourselves time to test all this other stuff." Or this could delay the publish itself. Or we could discover other issues with it in testing that cause us to sit on it for another publish, and so on. Really, anything could happen.
Most of the time, nothing bad happens, we haven't scheduled anything that requires more QA time than QA can accommodate, and what we check-in arrives on Live servers when it's supposed to. But this is just not something we can promise, so we try not to do that.
This particular torpedo has left the tube, but we can't say when precisely it will make contact with the USS Smuggler.
"Soon".
I normally don't post anything unless it is 100% solid because things change daily around here. I will break this rule and see how well you do with a tentative answer.Currently slated for Publish 19 is some slicing loving. We are hoping to get a document posted to "In Dev" this week for you all to view. QA still needs to bang away at the slicing changes which could push it out another publish or two.

THAT's the stuff, Tiggs!
Don't be afraid of it- the truth shall set you free!
Now...about that useless dancer column...
Well, you haven't gotten flamed, in any significant way, for the information you posted.
So now how about another little tidbit?
Approximately what Publish will the new smuggling content be in? You know the smuggler missions?
We have heard that only text is left to add. How long will this take?
Thank you.
Inquiring minds would like to know...
