Thread: Force Sensitive slicing (think tank)

I know it's been discussed but let's throw out our ideas, maybe one will get a bite...

Someone attuned to the force will be exceptional when it comes to crafting / repairing. Think of anakin building a pod-racer, being able to fix anything in otto's shop. Sure he has the highest mytoclorian (sp) count in the galaxy but you still get the idea. So someone who is really good at building fixing etc will be very good with their hands; able to make surgical precision modifications, which logically would include slicing. So why not have one of the FS trees for crafting include slicing mods? (no need to dedicate an entire tree to the cause, unless you really wanted toof course).

Possible mods :

- Foresee the future, who needs molecular clamps when you can predict the result?

- Ability to choose what will be sliced, or perhaps a 75% chance to slice one way or the other

- Guaranteed perfect slice, a slice that will either be perfect, or will completely disable the item. Something so powerful would need balance, such as a low success rate, or require an item that takes a LONG time to regenerate, or uses up a super rare loot item

- Reduced chance of low-end slices. self-explanitory

- Increased chance of high-end slices. self-explanitory

- ability to reslice an already sliced item. The "second-chance" slice would have to have a reduced effectiveness, such as lowering max percentage by 5% for example. would also have to over-write the original slice.

- possible higher percent slices

- two different slicing options, tried and true (more stable) or experimental (higher AND lower percentages)

- your idea here

My suggestion:

  • Replace slicing with Smuggling

  • Perhaps a small Smuggling skill bonus with Persuasion

But I'm not a big fan of Force/Smuggler interaction.

We're pragmatic people. We're un-sentimental. Smugglers are too busy trying to eek out a living in this muddy, lawless universe to think about attuning ourselves to a mystical energy field.

Sure he has the highest mytoclorian (sp) count in the galaxy but you still get the idea. Possible mods :

- Foresee the future, who needs molecular clamps when you can predict the result? Prolly no more clamps after suggler revamp

- Ability to choose what will be sliced, or perhaps a 75% chance to slice one way or the other Will be so after smuggler revamp

- Guaranteed perfect slice, a slice that will either be perfect, or will completely disable the item. Something so powerful would need balance, such as a low success rate, or require an item that takes a LONG time to regenerate, or uses up a super rare loot item Don't get this completely, but that's prolly just me

- Reduced chance of low-end slices. self-explanitory Not gonna happen because of balance

- Increased chance of high-end slices. self-explanitory See above

- ability to reslice an already sliced item. The "second-chance" slice would have to have a reduced effectiveness, such as lowering max percentage by 5% for example. would also have to over-write the original slice. Interesting....

- possible higher percent slices Again: balance

- two different slicing options, tried and true (more stable) or experimental (higher AND lower percentages)

- your idea here

"I have tried to design so people who wouldn't normally hang out together
come to realize each other's importance in the world,
the value of their roles in the society, that sort of thing.
So I try to have interdependence as a key feature
- people relying on each other"

or you could finish grinding and move on to Jedi

seriously though, I think what's been discussed before is how most smugglers feel they're the antithesis of Jedi. I have no interest in the village, and personally don't like the idea that I would be encouraged to waste my SP in a mindless grind so I can keep up with the uber FS slicer dewds

And as people have pointed out, slicing is changing really soon (words which I hope do not haunt me) so anything like this is pointless til then

All I think there should be is force sensitive crafting and accuracy in combat make sence however some of us want nothing to do with the force and a force sensitive smuggler sounds a wee bit silly. Just me maby but if people insist on FS this and that you should be able to achieve the same results with other ways.

You make some very good points, however, I think that seems more of a personal decision rather than something that should be hard-coded into our profession. I do agree that any force sensitive modifiers should not make smugglers require it to be effective. But I also think that it shouldn't be ignored either.

I do

I want to be able to ignore the fact that the village, and pursuant to the village, Jedi, exist.

The very design of MMORPGs makes it so that, if there's some kind of an advantage to your profession, you'll be 'forced' to get it to be competitive. Peer pressure and all that.

There are some FS mods that could be Smuggler-ish but... I'd rather see an alternative method to get all kinds of different mods and advantages that don't have anything to do with either the Force or the path to a Jedi.

I hadn't thought of that... touche.

I'm with Riot and the others on this. While I'm sympathetic to the desire to have something FS-related affect one of your chosen professions, I personally think it's nearly the opposite of what the smuggler profession is about. And if someone's able to gain a slicing advantage by having the right FS boxes, that's the guy that's going to get all the business--how many Slicers do you see competing with Master Smugglers? It very quickly wouldn't be a choice at all.

I hoped that the ROTW cybernetic attachments will bring something like that to the game (but as more details have been unveiled, seems not after all) - something opposite to the Force. In the SW universe, Force and technology don't really mix all that well and, in case of a FS/cybernetic mix, should inevitably lead to corruption and the dark side. Both Force users and artificially 'enhanced' people should receive a similar treatment from the 'general public' (imagine a person with two cybernetic arms with blasters installed and an implanted targeting visor walking down the street IRL - the idea behind the acceptance of such enhancements in the SW world is pretty much the same). It seems, though, that this Force/technology polarity won't be explored in this game at all, however well developed it is in, for example, the SWRPG material.
