Okay, when it comes to slicing, there's some good news and some bad news. The good news is, we can slice now! Hurray!
The bad news is.. it's craaaaazy! There had better be an easily digested formula behind these results, otherwise the slicing sticky is going to be a tome of War and Peacean proportions.
Anyway, here's some raw numbers for you all from a master smuggler:
10 CDEF pistols: 22% damage, 5% speed, 5% speed, 5% speed, 5% speed, 5% speed, 22% damage, 5% speed, 5% speed, 22% damage
10 Scout blasters: 12% damage, 5% speed, 5% speed, 5% speed, 5% speed, 5% speed, 12% damage, 5% speed, 5% speed, 5% speed
10 D18s: 5% speed, 10% damage, 10% damage, 10% damage, 5% speed, 5% speed, 10% damage, 10% damage, 5% speed, 5% speed
All right, I think it's time for me to follow my computer's lead and crash, but the conclusions so far are pretty clear: we have no slicing range anymore, just a single hard number that is determined either by the type of or the stats on the weapon. I'm guessing that speed isn't going to be 5% for all weapons; it's just that every pistol has a speed of 2 right now, so all their results being 5% is probably just a factor of them all working off an identical stat. This supports the theory that the % is based entirely on the weapon's stats and not type. Needs much more testing, though.
Also, in 30 slices, I saw 10 damage and 20 speed. The sample size here is way too small to draw any concrete conclusions, but it's possible it's not a 50/50 chance anymore as to what stat gets altered. Keep an eye on that.
Obviously a lot more work needs to be done on different types of ranged and melee weapons, but I hope this'll provide a start for the rest of the team and a heads-up to anyone who's not on TC.

I'm hopin' that this'll change. At the moment, all fights are basically two numbers: how hard I hit it, how hard it hits me. I'm assuming that some random numbers/ranges will be added in sometime in the next three weeks.

Considering they basically tout the lack of randomness in the combat system as a feature, I kind of doubt it.

Yet another reason why a lot of my decisions about this game revolve around the Revamp and how long it takes them to get it to us.

I didn't read where they weren't putting any randomness into the combat system before it goes live. Can you post the link to that?

Patch notes:
# Damage calculations are now predictive based on accuracy & defense values. Damge still occurs between min and max amount but is not calculated on a per hit basis. An attacker will always hit the defender for the same value as long as no other combat values change.
Until they actually officially announce they will be putting something else in, it's unfortunately just wishful thinking.

just realized that while it said 16% on all those damage slices.. 746 vs 701 isnt a 16% gain.. a 16% gain would be 813

Great catch right there, man. Run the numbers on all those damage slices and you'll see each max damage was improved about 6.4% while each min damage was improved around 7.7%. Gonna hop on now and check this out.
Pistol
Pre-slice stats/Post-slice stats
Reported damage increase/Real damage increase min-max
DE-10
351-701/376-742
20%/7.1-5.8%
DL44 XT
351-701/378-746
16%/7.7-6.4%
CDEF Pistol
28-56/30-59
22%/7.1-5.4%
Scout Blaster
70-140/75-150
12%/7.1-7.1%
D18
34-68/37-73
10%/8.8-7.4%
Now some crafted weapon testing to see if it scales
Crafted D18
23-61, 2.45 speed
27% speed/6.1%
Crafted D18
23-61/28-68
13% damage/22-15%
Okay.. so slice numbers aren't static and are dependent on the stats of the gun. They still aren't doing what they're saying they're doing, though.
More as I do em, just don't want to lose the post.

I just tested a bunch of other weapons--rifles, flame throwers, heavy stuff like that--and every time I got a speed slice it was for 5%. I've got no idea whether there's anything more complex than "IF slice='speed' OUTPUT='5%" (dude, you know what I mean), or if it's simply due to all the weapons being available as being balanced at the same level and thus resulting in similar slices.. but given that damage slices do differ greatly, I'm guessing it's more likely to be the former than the latter.

well, this is all IS supposed to change with the ever delayed Smuggler revamp. the slicing system is supposed to be getting a complete make over, unless that has been abandoned and i just missed it...

All your slicing is dependent on the new hard caps on min speed and max damage.
