Caylin....
(( If this has been addressed already, then just give me a clickyand let this thread die. ))
I'm not sure this is a very cohesive note... maybe just more like some rambling thoughts... but here goes:
While people have been concerned about WHO is going to represent Smugglers in the Combat Rebalance sandbox, I have had a question nagging me just below the surface. Smuggler is not really a Combat class. Yes, I realize we have the Dirty Fighting tree and the few combat items it gives us, but what are you expecting Smugglers to really add to this Sand Box?
Don't get me wrong - I firmly believe we NEED to be there... but I get a strange feeling it is a Defensive posture: That is, I hope we are not there just to make sure the few skills we do have don't get nerfed.
On one hand, Ihave this fear that the Devs are thinking "Smugglers are not combat personnel" and our opinion may not count for much and therefore extreme disappointment lurks. I wonder if they are just looking at how the mechanics of combat work, not how the classes interact with each other. I hope I am wrong.
However,on the other hand, I find hope in the squad you are taking in. I have hope that you guys MAKE them see how passionate we are, and what an awesome profession this is. Anyway... maybe I just don't know enough about this Sand Box.... So therefore, the title question: What are you expecting from the Sand Box, Caylin?

I do not know how all the specifics will work out. I'm sure I'll learn more about it at the summit coming up shortly. The combat revamp though seems to cover many aspects of the game. Including how we work together, which is why many of us are waiting for the profession role document that is supposed to be released.
The Smuggler 'Team' will probably not be doing just smuggler related skills. Think of it mostly as the all generic combat balance, where they had each forum choose five members to help test.
Some of the goals I think they want to accomplish are these.
- Balance the professions according to their role.
- Balance the races
- Make combat fun even to those who aren't that interested in it.
While taking a look at:
- HAM
- HAM Special Cost
- Armor
- Damage
- Damage Types
- Speed Caps
- Skills
- Mind Damage/Healing
However I did want smuggler advocates in the case we had to defend our skills or push for changes to them. Amixture of defense/offense hopefully yet maintaining the ability to compromise if some changes are considered necessary. So yes, I made sure to choose people who felt strongly about smugglers in particular. While we may not be considered a combat profession, we are tied to combat a great deal more than any tailor, that's for sure.
I expect Feign Death to be a hot issue. It is both overpowered and underpowered in it's use and can change the outcome of many situations.
I don't know when the sand-box will open up.

Caylin,
I would agree that most likely, there will be quite a bit of general testing. Although we are not getting revamped, I hope there is time to explore possible changes in our tree. For example, any GCW related benefits from underworld (not strictly combat related but pertains directly to PvP), spices in combat, and the future state of weapons, armor and slicing.
Although our revamp has to wait, I still hope we may see some changes to not just what we do with Dirty Fighting.
