I have a question for Smugglers that have been doing this. I have bounced around mastering all kinds of melee, and even Commando, and now I'm excited about Smuggler. Question is:
I see the + bonuses to Feign Death in the tree. Is there a chance that it fails? If so, what happens on a failure? If not, what are the bonuses to Feign Death for? Thanks in advance.

Yes, there is a chance that Feign Death can fail. But there success is very likely. The mods don't have as much influence as it might appear from the description. Feign Death requires a minimum amount of pool points and having no HAM is guaranteed failure (but you get a message you do not have enough pool points to Feign). Failure simply means you keep on fighting. If you get incapped, you can be deathblowed.
If by bonus you mean any type of SEA, food, BE additive, etc. that helps with Feign Death, there aren't any.

I see. So let's say I'm strictly a 0/0/0/0 Smuggler. I have full buffs and I see a nice Force Adept walking through Dantooine. I would rather pass on the fight, and let him worry about other things. He hits me once for a little damage and I Feign Death. With almost full healthand just Novice I have a good chance of success, correct? And with success they ignore you, right? Thanks again.

Well, you will actually need 0010 but I get your point. In my experience, you will have a good chance to Feign. I'll explain a little on how feign death works:
If you have the pool points and you use Feign Death, you will have to take at least one hit and you will appear incapped to the NPCs or players and they will not be able to give you a deathblow. But any attacks against you in PvE or PvP will cause damage. I have taken damage feigning in the Deathwatch Bunker when AOE attacks were used. That "next hit" is going to be a big one. Generally, it will not be a little damage but significantly more than you would normally take standing. I have been hit for 3000+ points by a mob when feigning.
In addition, when you are feigned, you retain aggro. The mob may even walk away a good distance (120m) but when you stand up, the mob will aggro again. You cannot peace out of it. You will have to fight or run but you won't be able to peace unless something else draws aggro.
So the short answer is yes, you have a good chance to feign even at novice smuggler. And yes, they will not be able to deathblow you.

Yeah, that retain aggro thing really irks. I guess the skill still has some use as you can regain the HAM that you lost fighting in the first place, but as far as escaping a fight, forget it.
Especially that even at 120 meters the Mob is right on top of you and getting a hit before you can even stand up.

I've FD'd my way up and out of bottom ofsquill cave. You can use it to escape but it takes alot of patience and a side project <bubble bubble> Or you can just logout and hope for the best when you return later. Or you can AFK for a few hours and hope someone kills the mob that you aggroed.
