Thread: shouting that your sliceing/selling spice good idea ? bad idea ?

hello all ,
i just thought id share a view that i have about the way a smuggler coducts is trade ' mind you this is just my humble view :
shouting that you are slicing , i think this is a bad idea slicing is illegal . the same with selling spice and shouting about it dodrug dealers today shout from were they are advertiseing their wares ? i think not .
some say well this how i make money , to me all you need to do i have your master smuggler title up , thats all i do and i cant really keep up with the request i get
i know some will say this is just a game bah , bah , bah ..... but little things like this make it a more enjoyable ...
I will say i am NOT a smuggler cause a little stupid cube ( holo) told me to do it ... i am a smuggler cause thats what i choice to be , and will be always

Yelling for slices is a horrible idea. The only time I advertised slicing was when I was slicing containers for free and witht he way the slice system is designed, the dependancy on containers at first, this is an unfortunate reality. But other than Novice Smugglers asking for containers... It is the most out of character thing a smuggler could do.
Nothing like another Master spamming his heart out with a price thats half mine. Advertising your vendor with questionable goods is one thing, but straight out screaming that you'll break the law for a few credits is another... I'd love to see some AI put into the Stormies to lock onto those people....

What choice do we have? I've been a Master Smuggler for about three weeks and I get much more business when I advertise then when I don't. I hang out in Theed and Coronet during prime-time playing hours between 8and 11pm EST. If I don't spam I get trickles of business. If I spam, I can count on a steady stream.
I would love to hang out in seedy corners of cantinas, back against the wall, eyes darting about the room for any sign of danger but that's just not the way the game is built. There is no black market and there really isn't any crime. I occasionally make attempts at role-playing a smuggler with emotes and the way I phrase the information I give my customers but most of them just want their stuff sliced as quickly as possible so they can go about their business.
I've stopped looking at the Smuggler profession as anything but a source of income. I can make enough money to play the other parts of the game that I enjoy. In order to enjoy SWG I've had to remove any pre-conceived notions of what I think the game should be and just enjoy it for what it is. Slicing gives me a chance to talk to people and making spice in my factories is a fun little mini-game to play without all the hassles of hard core crafting that the artisan professions have to deal with.
I hope that one day they'll try to enhance the profession in some way but I don't see it happening. It's clear that the choices the Devs make focus on ROI. Fixing the Jedi profession, the expansion pack and combat balance all have clear financial results for the company. Fixing smugglers and entertainers don't.

Shouting is not good if your into roleplaying!
But If you need cash......no still not a good idea! Just clutters things in spatial, and you end up getting the great /ignore!

Shouting is a very bad idea i cant count the times I have ran into coronet and seen (soinso) slicing for this much spice for this much i think that scans should be normal near the starport and spaceport I think that it is a game but you should play the game not spam the game.

I would say bad. But then slicing/spicing is just not a source of income for me. If/when I want to slice, I just turn on my Master Title and let people come to me.
And I actually don't sell spice. Too much of a hassle. I use it to support my combat habit.

I would say that from a roleplaying perspective, it doesn't make sense to /yell advertising for slicing or for vendors with smuggler stuff on them.
from a non-roleplaying perspective, well, people have to make money and not everyone is a roleplayer.
i think its sort of silly that someone is not yelling ads for slicing in front of the theed starport because its illegal when there are bunches of overt rebel jedi dueling in the same place...well lets just say the crackdown teams aren't doing their job 
we all have to pick our own road on what the right thing to do is and adapt to the system given. if it seems wrong for you to do it, then don't, and its all good. my vendor is on the planetary map and is actually labeled Gia's super secret smuggler stuff. Realistically, thats probably the same thing as a drug dealer putting a neon sign up in their front window that says "crack sold here"

Won't Stormies do something to you if you yell about the Rebellion? Seems they could put something in that if a Stormy, or any law enforcement NPC for that matter, is in range to hear you /yell, /say, or even /whisper about slicing or spice, they'll react. That means no advertising, at least not in direct wording, and maybe having to conduct business a little off to the side, like it should be.

I actually DO hang around in the cantina in Coronet lately. And I sit in a corner, by myself, chatting in gu with my tag up, tipping and flirting with the dancers (in character of course, and nothing crass or sexually overt, just fun stuff like /winking etc). I never spam or yell. If I see someone yelling for slicing, it's a 50/50 chance as to if I say something or not. Wanna find me, use the search function. I am not hurting for money, but at the same timeI am livingcomfortably. But I like it. Some people don't like to RP at all, which is fine by me, but I try to always lend a little "smuggler talk" to the conversation. 9 times out of 10, I won't get up and walk to someone if they need slicing either; depends on my mood, which is usually in the "I'm not getting up" mode. I am in the cantina. If you want it bad enough, you'll come and find me. When I catch sight of them in the cantina, I will usually /whistle or /beckon to them. 85% of the time, they'll sit down while I am slicing. Some enjoy it, some think I am cramping their style by making them go "all the way" to the cantina.
We all have our play styles. Some want the most money as fast as possible, or they feel that they get more business by spamming. All the power to ya. But that's not my style. My style is setting default run to off whenever I land in a starport and walking to wherever I'm going. It tends to get you noticed - 7+ foot tall wookiee with shades walking around, instead of running around like some sort of beheaded chicken.
To each their own.

Ive never shouted out about my services, even when I was a novice. It is just not my style and with my master tag up I get a ton of tells for slicing. But with that said, I have always felt that every smuggler should do what they feel comfortable with when it comes to making money. I dont agree with you about the RP aspect of it because if you have ever lived in a sh*t neighborhood ( i have) people push "stuff" out in the middle of the street. To see what I mean just watch one episode of Cops.

i leave my MS title up, leave myself searchable...
and i NEVER spam, i hate spammers, and i often see smugglers 'advertising' and its stupid, not only from an RP veiw... but if someone wants me to slice for them im not gonna ask first.

By the way, my Master Smuggler tag is up, but I'm not searchable. Can't find a criminal in the phone book, I always say. You want work done, you gotta find me.
(And I still get plenty of business, even when I'm not "working" by just being in populated places.)
