About the second character slot, that requires you to become Padawan, this is shortterm for grind, grind, grind and more grind. You'll need 6 completed Force Sensitive lines, and some trials done, then it's Padawan time and your second slot should be open, you current will be the Padawan, the new one will be fresh with 250 skill points. There's a long and elaborate guide in the Jedi forum, I haven't gone that path myself.
FS can help just about anyone, but it still includes a grind (yawn). Next thing for you is a visit from an old guy, he'll give you a crystal. Some time after some random Sith will attack you, loot them and you get a datapad (I recall) and a WP to some more Sith. For this there's also a guide, but in the Force sensitive forum.
As for what the FS skills can do, there's a bit of each, in your case with pistols, there's a line for ranged speed and accuracy, other than that, I don't see it opening up anything for your run-of-the-mill smuggler.

I mentioned in another thread that I was doing the Emperor's Retreat. I initially wanted to do it to access the Corvette Mission guy, but I ended up doing the whole thing. I got the badge and subsequently got...
The 'glow' (I refuse to use the now-favorite 'ie' ending as it sounds kinda childish to me =).
Now the reason I posted this here is: I DO NOT WANT A JEDI-- I am a smuggler at heart and I absolutely refuse to drop my Master Smuggler. I just want to understand my options. I remember talk about an 'old man' visiting you. And something else about getting a second character on my current server. Is the second character thing still around, and if so, how does it work? I'd love to have a secondary on Naritus w/o starting a new account. A secondary to go all-out pistols. Is this second character the 'force sensitive' one? And what would I do in the Force sense that would help the pistols?
Any info and tips would be appreiciated...
