After 4 months break, I've returned with a new perspecitve on SWG. I have come to the realization that making your own content is necessary untill the smuggler rewamp hits some time in the future. Although not much have happened in the past 4 months, I still have hopes that the game can evolve into it's potential.

Anyway, in the past few days I've been thinking about how smugglers could get a bit more content and at the same time create a new way of income.

With spices at an all time low sale and slicing something that is mainly done in larger quantities, there's really not that many options for the smuggler community to make a living from our skills. I know a lot of smugglers find it rather ridiculous that illegal items can be put on the basar (in my oppinion it shouldn't even be on vendors). This leads me to what I've been thinking about lately:

First it should be impossible to put sliced equipment and spices on vendors. Instead there should be an illegal market for such things. The market should be represented by NPCs located in different shady places around the galaxy. These could be placed in back alleys and/or be the bartenders in different cantinas. I see two ways that this market could work. One is that only the smuggler could access this market, however I think this would hamper the market somewhat. Another is to make it possible for anyone to place illegal items on the market, but only a smuggler could get items from the market. I see this as the best way as the smugglers wouldn't get too much work putting things up for sale in the market and retrieving for other players. Also this would make it easier for weapon/armor smiths to accept the change. They would still be able to sell their things without too many problems.

The market should work in such a way that a smuggler can access it anywhere in the galaxy, but would have to go to the place where the item were placed upon sale. Also there shouldn't be any max price as there is on the bazaar. This way it is possible to sell sets or armors and enhanced weapons. Just to clearify: only illegal items can be put on the market.

I said that I think this would lead to a new way of income for smugglers and a bit more content. What I hope would happen with this is that when someone needs a sliced weapon or armor they go to a nearby smuggler and ask if he can find something for him/her. The smuggler then goes to the nearest black market NPC and looks for what the customer wants. Either the weapon is on the same location or some other place and a price can be agreed upon for the retrieval of the wanted item. In order to avoid dabblers, then there should be a system so that a novice smuggler only can get items at the low range prices and the higher you get in the underworld tree you would be able to retrieve items at higher and higher prices.

Other things could be implemented in this, such as a message system between smugglers and potential customers (especially if some day there will be more content and player based smuggling). Also there could be some kind of risk involved. As an example there could be an chance for the authorities to find out about the illegal transaction, which could lead to fines or in the future to get on bountyhunter terminals. Probably some smugglers related to the empire would argue that they shouldn't be affected by this (like it happened with contraband scans) however I disagree on this. One thing is to have illegal items on you as an associate of the empire... another is to distribute illegal items to the general population... who knows who'll get their hands on such things.

This is what I've got so far. Any suggestions and comments are very welcome and I hope a debate will show if this is something with interest for the smuggler community and eventually improved.

Good luck out there my fellow smugglers
