Bought JtL from the US (I'm in UK) so didn't have instruction etc and didn't really know whet I was doing while setting it up and getting it going.
Now I'm 2211 Privateer operating out of Corellia for CorSec, and it's only now dawning on me that:
a) I should be working out of Tatooine in the Smugglers Alliance
b) my current missions are anti-Smuggling missions aimed at Nym etc so I'm a loathable poacher/gamekeeper
c) I stand a good chance of being bitten in the ass if the Revamp ever comes and rewards Smugglers in the Alliance/Jabba's sphere
Ugh, I hate my own impulsiveness sometimes...so do you guys think I should resign from my traitorous position in Corsecand restart on Tat, or will I be ok?

Well first off, dont worry, there is nothing ever in these instruction manuals. They keep them as vague as possible, so that new people dont notice how much they had to fix things.
Now Im not a pilot so Im not entirely sure how it works. But I believe they are just like theme parks, but without the faction pts. Have you tried going to Talon and seeing if he will give you missions?
Then again, I think you have plenty of time to work for everyone, master all the professions, become a Jedi, sell your account. Buy another then remaster smuggler and privateer. By then we may have an 'ideal' date for revamp.

You will have to resign as a corsec pilot to take missions from the smuggler alliance. You will also loose your current rankings and will have to start again. I made the exact same mistake in beta and completed most of tier one for the RSF before i remembered i wanted to be working for the bad guys

Quit now before you hate yourself. It's better to drop what you have then reach master corsec and wish you were master smugglers alliance. First couple of Tiers can be solo'd in a relatively short amount of time. Being in the Smuggler's alliance has made my semester man. I finally feel smuggler...which is why I have the game to begin with.
Summing up: Dump Corsec; Go to Tat and pick up Smuggler.

Yeah, once you've done your pilot prof once already, the first couple of tiers is cake. If you've got second-thoughts now, stop now and redo it while its easy.
(and FYI: at the end, CorSec will allow you to play for the Rebels *or* Imps, but the SmugAlliance endgame is Rebel-Only)

Wait a sec!
I started with missions from the "neutral" trainer guy on Naboo and was thinking I was in the same boat working for RSF (or was that RFS? heh) and when I went to see good 'ol Dravis on Tat he said I needed to do work for my own faction or something along those lines.
However, once I completed several missions(seemed like the first set was like some sort of multiple mission based quest... if you will) I decided to see if perhaps Dravis would speak with me....
Sure enough, once my initial obligation to the RSF? was complete and I earned some supercool bandoleer backpack thing - Dravis would give me some choices of different mission types... like Fight the pirates, bad business and some other choices. There was no story such as I experienced when I first signed on however... just a bunch of missions choices.
Not sure if there is more to being in this Smuggler Alliance or not but Dravis mumbles something about well I proballly shouldn't do this... but SA needs help!
Is there more to it?
If so I need to drop my skills so I can get to it I guess... or at least think about it!
One more thing do those kill the pirates missions ever end???? I always wind up at these 500cr per ship missions and then get sent vs some crazy stuff - I just wonder if there is no actual end perhaps and it just keeps getting harder and harder till you decide to land or what???
Hopefully this helps you or someone can help me!
thanks everyone!

Dravis is offering you Duty-Missions, which are a great way to grind xp between tiers. They're repetitive missions that get tougher and tougher with each new wave. Eventually they end, but the payouts get higher with every wave (or every few waves).
Once you're ready for your next Tier, you'll wind up going back to RSF people for the trainer-missions. And eventually, they'll suck you over to the Dark Side.

Master_Valis: "Wait a sec!"
Too late
I resigned and boy what that a painful experience. Not only did I lose the 60k xp I'd stored, I also ran into annoying problems...namely my starter ship was docked in Cnet and I couldn't get to Tat so I was left mooching around Cnet space whacking Trade Fed Z95s etc which took forever. Now I'm sat back at 1000 and feeling very sorry for myself
But I'm glas I did it...the SA does feel like home
